Post your original songs/compositions!

Hi:-) I’m a little unsure of what I think about this. I mean, I like the song I ended up with, but I’m very unsure of the way I made it.
Did I actually make it at all? I have generated the song in several rounds and worked to come up with something that I think is good, but did I actually make a song? Hmm, a little unsure if I want music to go further this way, but I have to try to make a whole album before I give up then:-)

I guess it could be enlightening if you talked us a bit through what exactly you did do (or not). It could really be interesting to hear what the AI needed as input and how it generated output (and how much)

Will try. I used Suno (https://app.suno.ai/create/) and had to give it a lot of different tries to make this “song,” but it’s about the same every time, just with small changes.

First, you need to have a plan for what the song should be, Intro, verse, chorus, and so on. Then, it’s about adjusting the lyrics to fit, and choosing parts you like. You have to generate one part at a time. If a part is okay, then you continue with that part and generate the next, maybe with a break and a bass solo. Use “outro” to get a good outro. I couldn’t make a good enough intro, so I imported it into Reaper and made it there. Same as with fading out, I did in Reaper. Used EZ Mix 2 master preset Metal as an effect. Then it was just to export the “song” and do the video in Adobe.

So what you don’t do is make music. As with all AI, I think it’s fun, but I don’t hope this is how music is going to be created.

I actually think there will be a lot of shitty filler pop music made this way and for its purpose will be fine, but it’s not going to replace real musicians more than it will replace (say) Muzak.

I hope you’re having a great day. I had some time for making music today, so ofc. the first thing I did was to grab my bass and play around (Times are not so good nowadays. So I am not so active, but lurking around my favorite online community daily still. You’re awesome.) And after a while I had (I think.) quite fun bass part, so I recorded some other parts and I would like to share the result. It’s kind of rough, but that’s how it goes when time is limited.

Any feedback is appreciated. Have a good one and stay awesome!

Thank you for sharing this.
My first impressions are that I like how the sounds seem to be woven together, but not too rigidly. As the song goes on they seem to get unwrapped in a way that reveals more. Somewhere between halfway to 3/4 in, I was reminded of Frippertronic sounds by Robert Fripp. However, I did find the extra drums/percussion after that point to be a bit distracting.
Just some initial impressions. Now on to listening to it some more.

Thank you, Stev. Yeah, my ability to play drums is way behind everything else, and especially the off-beat, syncopated Tom wasn’t a really good choice. (Both rhythm and sound-wise.$ But that’s always something I am able to judge only after quite a few of listens. Next time I will open the project I will focus on re-recording the part/re-designing the kit.

I look forward to hearing the next version or versions. It is pretty cool to hear how the initial idea evolves into a more polished song. Have fun with this. You have a lot great sounds to work with.

I cant remember if I’ve posted that live before or not but there you go. I’ve not been about much on here for a while as crazy life events have been occurring - you know what it’s like. /waves to everyone again

Bolsheviks of Madrid will be featured on a podcast today.

Here is a little write up Bret did along with the broadcast times and a Mixcloud link:

How could you miss the Dawghaus Radio livestream featuring the Bolsheviks of Madrid? DON’T. Go to mixcloud.com/live/dawghaus today, the 8th of March. When? Noon, 5pm and 10pm PST. The live stream will go on before and after, so catch that, too. It will be a musical salad, with dressing and Bolsheviks. (Whatever that means) Working with the Dawghaus host, Bob Deardorf, we came up with a set of times that would work for our listeners, including those in Finland. Yup, Finland, our new NATO ally. We are not responsible for Finland joining. But it didn’t hurt, either.

The first of three podcasts is now in progress.

The second launch of the podcast is in progress.

Bolsheviks of Madrid is collaboration with Bret Hamilton and myself.
Wearing Tuxedos While Riding Tricycles is a track from our album Shopping Mall. The bassline on this is really fun to play. The cover art is by Todd Alcott.
Bret just made this video. He generated some pretty trippy images for it.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited these forums, but I have been busy making songs. We’ve just finished up another round of the Spintunes songwriting contest. I managed to make it to round 3 before being evicted, but as always I wrote for round 4 anyway, and am really pleased with the song I ended up with.

I have to say, doing the bass buzz course earlier this year made a HUGE improvement to writing, playing and recording my basslines for all these songs. Everything was so much easier!

With Spintunes, each round has a specific challenge and you get about a week to write and record the song. I included submission notes with all my songs, which are on the bandcamp page with the lyrics. The challenges and my resulting songs were as follows:

Round 1: write a song about the weather - Strange Attraction

Round 2: creative use of call and response (I got dinged a bit on this one, but I stand by my choices!) - Looking At You

Round 3: rondo form (each verse had to have different harmonic information and a different feel; this round was difficult) - Exquisite Norks

Round 4: photo finish (had to write a song inspired by the supplied photo, which turned out to be a water stain in a judge’s garage) - Fortune Teller

Because I’d named my own Bandcamp album for this round I Don’t Know About You, But I’m Spinning 22, I gave myself the extra challenge of including a Taylor Swift lyric in each song.
