Right on. Non-Danelectro owners need not apply. :joy:

Absolutely, nope. Lipsticks are the killer tone of this model.

Or a candy bar it would still look very neat!

It’s really the tone of these little lipstick pups guys that are the secret sauce of the Danelectro sound. Original (or a close facsimile) D lipsticks sound best as they can deliver the D signature sound.

Ahh yeah that makes sense

I didn’t expect @Reasonably_Happy to take me seriously on replacing the pickups with two humbuckers. I think most people who follow this forum are aware that the Longhorn really needs three humbuckers to function properly :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Active strat single coils and a preamp… well now we’re talking. :face_with_peeking_eye::wink:

Throw in a lipstick humbucker, they’re great. You can always split the coil.

Guyker bridge arrived today. I wanted the adjustability of string spacing that these saddles provide. If I fail at remaking the bridge plate it goes right back in this one and gets installed.
The Guyker preamp has been on my radar for some time and I haven’t tried it yet. The only “what if” is if I decide on a stereo output…
The other decisions is GFS pickups or AllParts. Not emotionally committed to either other than always having received great products and service from GFS.

Caveat emptor with this bridge. Make sure the bridge is mounted far enough back from the nut to intonate the low E. As in, you may have to localise the bridge mounting screws 1/4" or so further than the Fender standard 35" from the nut. Ask me how I know

That’s my entire carpentry career giving advice to apprentices.

“When you make this cut don’t do this. Ask me how I know”

Yep. I’ve cut this seven times and it’s STILL too short.

Another one arrived. I ordered these as backup.
They are higher quality and will be used instead of first batch.

Id say good thing I ordered backup.

Started another Project Bass today.

This is a Monterey I swapped for a cheap electric guitar.
It is a good player, I have flats on it (can’t remember which ones, someone could probably tell from the silks). It almost has a natural reverb which is cool
There are a few deep chips down to the timber which is why I am stripping it right back.
I put the Pink Floyd stickers on and will rescue them for something else.
I stripped most of the finish from the body today.
That was a job, used a heat gun and a paint scraper to good result and only started a few small grass fires.
I am planning on doing everything in a dark metallic green, some kind of British Racing, Sherwood, Emerald kind of thing depending on what looks best-body, headstock and neck.
I will likely leave the chromed furniture and maybe add a silver bridge cover if the mood takes me.
Progress pics to follow over the next few weekends as I get time.

Busy day today.

I swapped out the Squier P bass with the Fender neck, that bass already sounded great but a guy really like the setup and requested a Fender neck so there.

Then I swapped out the neck on my 75TH anniversary turquoise ocean with a Roasted Maple neck and swapped out the Tuner to the Graphtech Ratio tuners. This one feels really good and it looks killer. Sadly, I made a couple of boo boo but not really noticeable. I was thinking about swapping out the pickups to th Geezer’s cream or white pickups but we’ll see on that one.

Then I swapped out the pickup on the MIJ ‘51 reissued to the Lindy Fralin split coil, as well as the pre. It sounds pretty awesome. It definitely has more muscle to the tone.

Then the easiest thing turned out to be the most troublesome. My Lignum fretless the Schiller Da Vinci bass tuning peg cracked and broke, there were no replacement parts and it’s already discontinued. I ordered 2 ( one for Spare) from a shop in Germany and decided to swap it out today. First of all none of my wrench would fit to the hole for the tuning nut, went out and bought the skinner set of wrench, took it out put on the new one and then it turned out the Left handed version was install. Hmmm!
Luckily I just swapped the peg and the internal and it worked out just fine. I’ll post the pictures on this one tomorrow.

What a day!
