Project Basses

Found the perfect one!

(lol no… $850 for a fucking concentric knob set… and the prices of the basses these were attached to is often more than my car…)

Vintage is just a polite term for obsolete. Screw that.

\o/

inner diameter of the lower half is 8.15mm so it should be no problem for a solid 8mm shaft.

As much as I want purple, I think it will clash with the purple of the pickups. or it will match closely enough to not be noticeable. I can’t quite decide… but they’re only $9

And I still have to find volume and blend knobs to match :joy: Xentric Guitars makes all kinds of styles in concentric and standard…

Whoa! Are those metal? Love the colors.

Those are cool.
Now I gotta get a bass with stacked concentrics…
Ir a preamp fir one if the others. Just dont know which one would look good with those.
Urggg.
They are so cool. Maybe I will just buy a few for paperweights.

Or figure out how to mount them to some pedals foot switches.

those ARE cool, the simplest things are really hard to find sometimes. i spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for a black knob with a dot marker on top that didn’t look stupid.

Seems I have a shielding issue on my C-5, according to the internet. I don’t know. It hums when just sitting there, stops when I touch the strings. I read it’s the opposite when it’s grounding problem. I don’t have control over the grounding in the Flexcore preamp :eyes: But it also hums if I touch the metal knobs on the preamp :woman_shrugging:t2:

One of the pots/boards touches the shielding of the cavity cover but there’s no metal contact… I don’t think I can get any more depth in the control cavity. I might have to just replace the preamp as it really doesn’t quiiiite fit. Though it isn’t like I touch the knobs while playing, and I might be getting resin knobs…

The bridge ground is connected to the Flexcore’s “shield ground” connection. I’m not sure where else to put it.

Guess I have to re-shield this MFer :unamused: though it wasn’t noisy with the stock preamp that I recall :eyes: Maybe it’s just picking up noise from my computer monitor.

Resin.

Well all right. I think I want this demoncore out of my bass  . I hit a string hard and the output of my bass just dies with a loud crackle-fart o.O I unplug it and plug it back in and it works again. It doesn’t look like a bad solder joint on the jack. The words specific to this issue make finding anyone with such a problem difficult… :unamused:

Edit It’s specifically the bridge pickup that cuts out :unamused: this is all kinds of fun to troubleshoot on my day off :joy:

Hey scored another Steve Harris. This time I’ll keep the neck and go gold hardware.

Wow, now I remember why I switched my original Steve Harris neck to roasted maple neck, it was a PITA screw adjustment truss rod. Plus the Gold Hipshot HB2 is a real PITA to reverse, it seems like the c clip is not possible to take off with special tools. I’ll send them an email to see what they have to say, as i didn’t see the manual on their website.

Wow, some guys have all the luck

Older stock are not reverseable. That change was made in the past couple years, so depending what you got, might not be a thing at all.

The sad part is Hipshot has no idea what’s out there new Vs old stock, because they didn’t change part numbers when they upgraded them all to reverseable.

Oh man I sure hope not, I bought the left handed one on their ebay factory store, first they only gave me one set of screws instead of 4. When I emailed them, a lady replied and pretty much politely called me a liar, as she kept saying that this has hardly ever happens but sure she’ll send me a replacement, the next day she said supervisor said they sent me the wrong thing altogether they had to send me a different screws and the rings.

Anyways this Stratocaster was also in the bench today. I put the EMG pro Pickguard set on it and swapped out the Pickguard to an anodized blue.

Sadly that might be your first clue that it’s NOS. Good news is they will likely replace it for you.
I had something similar happen. I ordered two gold from one place and two more from another. They were all right handed but…two were newer reverseable and two was not, and they did not match! Two were from the somewhere in the UK and two from Bestbassgear. The bestbassgear guys help me square it away even though the older ones were from the UK store that ignores me after.

Yeah just got a return offers as like you said they were older stock and not reversible.
@John_E are you familiar with the Hb14.? I know they are mainly for Sire bass but what else does it fits.

Well here goes nothing. Going to refinish my Ibanez short scale. It’s a very cheap bass so there’s little to lose and lots to learn.
