Oooooooooooooooooooh! WTF? What did you do to that! This is something I like! A lot!
Is this the best sounding & most flexible short scale you have? It’s not Avocado green, but I could live with that ^^
Get a decent Jag (Squier)for less than, hopefully 250 quids
Watch and read @Barney super awesome refinishing post
Get the EMG pickups, got stuck? Let me know. I’m an EMG fanboi, I’ll point you in the right direction and models.
If you paint the body yourself this whole project would cost you $450-600 if you change the components as well heck you can even go with the RayRoss Saddleless bridge for a super cool sparkling tone.
That said If you like unique good looking bass that plays well and very well made, you can also look into Yamaha Motion Bass II or III it’s a medium 32 inch scale, pick one with ladybug headstock. They usually runs $250-500 from Japan these are mid to late 90’s bass. I have 2. Super cool and funky bass. Unfortunately, to mod these pickup it will cost you a few bucks extra.
You are still young - but when you get older your arms will shrink ^^
No, but seriously, I have my mind set on 30" - this is the only think nobody will convince me otherwise, not even the evil forces at BassBuzz!
Size is important, but sometimes (in rare cases) smaller is better!

That little petite is rocking Quad pickups with. The only 2 knob and a switch covers pretty much similar to a full band eq. And it’s a push pull active/ passive. I have it wired north coil series/ full/ and south coil series, it also run 18V power from one 9v battery with the Xpure buffer. Super cool little bass.
If you are going to spend 1500 euros maybe you could contact Lignum and have them build you one in 30” scale.
The Dub King doesn’t have a traditional hollow/semi-hollow sound, I saw someone describe it as “imagine a Hofner violin bass had a baby with a SG and a Fender P-bass. Though it’s none of those things”. If you listen to a Gibson EB-2 (30.5"), Epiphone Jack Casady (34") or Harley Benton HB-60 (30.5"), they sound quite a bit different, muddier and more resonant. You can get a really nice upright-like sound with a hollow/semi-hollow bass.
Just took a listen on youtube and honestly I think the Gretsch offerings sound a lot more differentiated and less muddy than the Reverend. YMMV. If you really wanted a semi-hollow EB (which is how it sounds to me) then this might be your bass, otherwise I would keep looking.
The videos I saw were also pretty saturated tone-wise, not sure if that’s the bass or the people recording it.
I would EQ this thing hard if I owned one.
Could also be bad online examples, would pay off to hear one in person.
All my basses are short scale. At the moment I have 4 basses. The first one is an Ibanez Mikro 28.5", which I took the Beginner to Badass course. The second one I have is a Dean EVO flat black 30". This bass I got for a steal but because it was a cheap bass it had some issues quickly. The strings were crap and one of the turners broke. Replaced the strings and the tuners, and it is a good bass now. My third bass is Fender Mustang again 30". I love the deep thump you get with this bass. My last bass which my wife purchased was a Duesenberg StarPlayer TV 30 " semi hollow. Now this bass is great. I can make it sound anyway I want. It is built like a tank and is well balanced. She got it used and was able to pick it up at a bargain price for Duesenbergs. The person who had it set the bass up like a guitar and had the action way too low. All I had to do was raise the action a hair and played like a dream. Since you are in Europe I would expect that Duesenbergs can be purchased at the top of your budget.
