SAG - Selling Aquired Gear

I’ve got quite a few things on the sell list.
However, I’ve got quite a few things keeping me from selling them

  1. Market - is really down right now for commanding the best price, waiting a couple months closer to holidays always is better.

  2. Shipping - is such a pain. I like to sort all the boxes (pull originals out of attic, yes I keep most all of them) and ship on g boxes packing materials prior to listing. For basses, pulling cases out of storage, finding original parts, deciding if I am gonna put original parts on or not, keep upgraded bits etc).

  3. Living 50/50 in two places - deciding where to sell / move the stuff etc. sell local first (or try).

  4. Dealing with —- ugh —- people.

Yeah this. Had a guy on Reverb buy but not complete payment on an item. Relist same item. Same guy buys again but doesn’t pay.

Then months later he messaged me asking if it was still for sale.

Just as an FYI there is no profanity screening on Reverb messages. So you can explain to assholes why they’re assholes.

Ray had it right.

Was he selling a similar item and taking out the competition by “buying” it perhaps?

This is actually a thing.

Speaking of shady sellers, hat tip to @BeerBaron, who spotted that this guy:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/116685182450

is selling my SBV-550. The only problem is, this person doesn’t own it. I have no idea who they are but it’s not me.

There’s at least one other listing besides this one also doing it. @John_E I think you saw one of these guys before?

My guess is they list things they see for sale locally on ebay, and if it sells, they then buy and ship the item.

I’m currently trolling them by messing with my listing

That’s some scary shit… even though I don’t understand neither the movitation nor the end goal of this guy…

If it’s in Japan it’s very likely some kind of fetish?!?!

I think it’s purely an import/export business. This is all they do and add a bit of profit (though in my case here it cannot possibly be very much with that pricing).

There are a lot of things in Japan sold by self titled ‘brokers’.
They all are allowed to sell the same item per the actual owner - usually a guy with a big warehouse of stuff.
They all compete with each other for the sale and you as the buyer can haggle for the best price they are willing to take to sell it.

I have bought at least 2 basses this way, both totally legit.
When I bought them though, you get a message saying they have to check to make sure the item is still in the warehouse. This also means if you want additional info or pics you are shit out of luck. That said, both transactions went seamlessly.

However…

  • The other guy(s) selling don’t always know right away when something is sold, so in this example the guy might not have gotten the memo.
  • Per eBay it is against the rules to list the same item in mutiple accounts, but no one seems to care.

I am not saying this guy is legit, but the practice is quite common in Japan.
Also could just be a scammer.

I know for a fact he doesn’t have this bass in a warehouse. I own it. He simply lifted my listing on mercari, upped the price, and listed it on ebay.

The bass is in my room.

There are two other similar sellers doing exactly the same thing.

They clearly just relist things they see for sale locally, and if they sell on ebay they buy it locally and ship it.

I have no idea who these people are but I can guarantee you their listing is simply a pirated copy of mine, down to the bad machine translation.

There ain’t no warehouse

just stating what I knew as you quoted me.
like i said, no clue what these guys are actually up to

Yup yup! I knew you had had good experiences with a couple of them.

It’s probably fine, a bit shady as they are kind of misrepresenting the actual provenance of the instrument, but it sems to be a thing as an import/export niche.

Meanwhile I am enjoying messing with them by pausing my listing

I can say that if a Japanese person discovered someone in the US was doing this to them, they would find it shady AF.

There would be if you were @Al1885

I cannot but agree with that statement

They’ve been on eBay since 2017 with 100% positive reviews, four hundred some odd number of them. Though I suppose they could dupe good reviews.

You should buy it from them and then immediately double the price on your own listing, lol. Though, if they use bots they may be faster than you…

Yeah trolling them with questions about it is the next step

Selling my Fender Rumble 100, like new, purchased less than 12 months ago at the local GC in Eugene, OR. Currently listed on Craigslist and Reverb for local pickup.

I’d consider shipping it to someone on this forum. I’d like to pocket $250, but I’ll consider offers. I’d prefer not to sell through Reverb just so i don’t have to share the proceeds but if you are interested and want the buyer protection that comes along with, then go for it.

Ok, gonna post this here. I have a left handed Dingwall NG3 five string for sale, including the Dingwall gig bag.

I am looking for £1,350 for it, which I think is a very good price, it’s listed on eBay for £1,500. I am based just outside of London and ideally would like to hand the bass over f2f, but would consider packaging it up and posting to someone on the forum, if you pick up the cost of postage, insurance and any import taxes.

The bass is in good condition. There is some buckle rash on the back, but it’s hard to photograph and there is one small ding (4 / 5mm) on the back edge near the jack socket.
