I do like my Ashdown better then the tc, but I also liked the tc a lot too. Don’t really think you can go wrong imo. The Ashdown has better resale if that matters.
If it retails for $399 and I can buy it new for $143, then what is the resale?
Considering it is the ONLY one for $143. Strange.
Whoops, not anymore, somebody ordered it. LOL.
I probably tipped somebody off.
Oh well. Was not meant to be.
Do the entry level TC heads like the BH and BQ have preamps that actually add any tone color at all? Mine was DOA so I never got to find out, and the SpectraDrive (which apparently shares the preamp) is completely neutral and bland, so would not interest me at all in an amp head.
Don’t really know. I had the RH line which I think is the middle tier one? If I had to describe the sound I would probably put it in the modern/clean category. The Ashdown is much more in the classic/warm camp. I would guess the bh would be the same, as you say bland
Yeah, I won’t get that Ashdown. I should not have been running my mouth about how cheap it was, somebody snagged it, the only one left is $378.
But I may have found something else worth looking into.
There are many short scale bases. I tried 2 Rogue violin basses. Both of poor quality. Then a squire Bronco. Weird Bridge setup. 2 strings per saddle. Then I got an Ibenez. I put new daddario strings and it sings. It had better quality all the others I tried. You should be able to find some other good shorty’s but I am very happy with my Ibenez Micro
That was me… thanks bud…
Just kidding!
I love everything about it visually. Plus a toggle !
Approved
Yeah I can’t see springing for an EBMM when Sterlings are so good.
Except of course for the Bongo.
Ok ,I know officially hate you all
I’ve gone and just ordered this …
So now I have a full size Ibanez and a mini Ibanez plus a Fender P and now a mini nearly Fender
Congrats @Mac and just exactly the one (this color is really nice) i was about to buy instead of the Chowny but don´t mind, its no problem to have more basses but 4 is a good and resonable base.
And i want a detailed review please
Thanks @bernds64. Hopefully it will arrive soon as the shop is only in Melbourne. I would have gone and picked it up but it’s 30kms out of my permitted travel area !
I’m not seeing the problem here
Congrats, @Mac!
How are you getting along with both a P-bass neck and an Ibanez neck? They could hardly be more different…
I’m finding the P neck okay to be fair. The modern C shape isn’t too chuncky.
The Mikro neck is really nice to play. Finished in a satin feel it’s fast
Over at the weekly talkingbass FB hang, mark made an interesting point when someone asked him what he thought about short scale and he said he just doesn’t find them to be that different to play. They’re not as short as you think they are, he said and I agree. Not talking about mikros or ubass of course. A short scale is only 8% smaller, mostly it only matters on the lower frets, and giant 4 fret stretches aren’t really needed that often (or ever maybe). So it’s really not a night and day situation, short vs standard.
