Short Love

I saw that but am skeptical that it has a humbucker. Still looks to be a cool bass

Short-scale gig bag!

UPS just dropped off my candy order, which happened to include a “Sire U” gig bag. It fits my U5 perfectly (of course) but more than that: it is a sturdy muscular beast of a bag. The sides are not just foam, there is a hard plastic backing in there with the foam. The handle is beefy, the entire exterior foot of the bag has a layer of grippy rubber, the back has padding for your spine, and there is a Velcro retaining strap so you can tuck the shoulder straps out of the way.

I’m very pleased with it.

Sire U gig bag just added to my Sweetwater Wish List.

Tip: Make sure you specify a Sire “U5” bag.

There is a 34” scale Sire U7, too. You don’t want to end with the wrong size gig bag.

Yikes! Glad I bought my Sire U5 when I did (a couple weeks ago). The price just jumped up by $65.
Many thanks to those of you who convinced me to buy when it came back in stock, rather than waiting until I finished B2B!

This is a repost from the GAS thread.

My Gretsch G2220 Electromatic Junior Jet II Short Scale Bass arrived this week.

I bought it listed as “used”, but it looks and feels brand new and practically flawless.
It feels at least just as good, if not better than, the previous one I played that got away.
I went to the Gretsch website and looked up information about product dating based on their serial numbers.
One of things they said was the following:

“*** 0001 through 0100: Reserved for prototypes, samples, one-offs”**

My serial number ends with 0010, so my bass probably fits into at least one of those categories.
Here is a link to the page:

I feel that I really got a good one.
This should provide quick (and temporary) relief from GAS. It also means that my Fender Mustang has a similar sized buddy.

Yesterday I had the chance to play with a 32” scale P bass (I can’t remember the brand or the model, but I can check the next time). It was interesting, also because I had only played with a P bass right when I started to learn to play bass, and I had a P bass on loan.

This 32” scale I tried yesterday was nice. I didn’t notice that much of a difference between playing a 32” from playing my 34” scale. Of course the frets are a little closer, so it might be nicer to play in some cases.

I might enjoy one day having a 32”, but why are they so uncommon and difficult to find here. The best ones available here are 34”. It seems not even Thomann has too many 32” options. I was told they are more popular in Japan. As with everything, Japan has the most cool options of practically everything. If I lived there I would probably have a large collection of fountain pens, inks, notebooks, and would eat matcha flavoured everything everyday… Japanese people are so lucky.

EDIT: I think technically 32” is medium, not short scale, so I might have posted this on the wrong thread. I didn’t see though a Medium love thread.

We love mediums too. Not a lot of them out there. You’re welcome here anytime

yep absolutely. 33 3/4” scale is short scale in my book

My first attempts at slapping on my U5 have been mighty embarrassing, but it’s certainly better than my attempts on my 25 inch acoustic. Gio slaps on a UBass (which is like, what, 23 1/2 inches?) and it sounds darn good. Solid Body 4-String Candy Apple Red Fretted U•BASS® – Kala Brand Music Co.™

I came very close to getting a Serek Midwestern 2, but the build time was too long. I was moving to France and the rule for not having to pay import duty was that the “whatever” had to be 6+ months old. I planned on using the pickup-shipping-delivery time to legally achieve that age (unlike how Coors got caught breaking their 10-day aging time vs. 7 for the mainstream beers by aging for 8 days in Golden, CO and counting the 2 days in bulk rail tankers destined for their east of the Mississippi River canning facility in Memphis). I got my G&L Fullerton Deluxe Fallout in time, but the Serek would have arrived too late and I’d have had to pay a 25-30% import duty on it. For a $3200 bass, that’s a lot extra. I held back the tears and passed.
