What am I doing? by that logic, me just being on the forum daily in hurting your cause. It’s not my fault that there are some hidden gems out there if you can find them.
And by by them, if you can find some good shape Carvin, do yourself a favor.

It is kind of a shame, but my two favorite amps are no longer being built. Fortunately some people take extremely good care of their things and sell them once in a while.
I still have not found the right SWR head, they are either over priced, or way to beat up.

This little (small and light) Carvin Head is a hell of an amp. You probably don’t need to upgrade to the 1000, but they have it if you do.

I hope you read the reader comments on the bottom of that link.
Word of mouth is some of the best advertising.

My smol Phil Jones Double Four BG-75 from when I was in my “DO NOT COLOR MY SOUND OR I WILL CUT YOU” phase (And I was enamored with an amp that could be powered off a 20V DC power bank)

I didn’t say the only amps I like are not made anymore, just the ones I like best are not made anymore, so there is room on the list to find new ones. I have been a fan of the Phil Jones.
I am not a 15" bass cab guy. they are big and muddy. I like some 10" punch, or even a 4x8 stack would suit me well.
I want to try some of those little 5" speaker stacks he makes.

These little fours handle the low B well. When I play my synthesizers through it, I can feel the wall vibrating.

Funnily enough, when I was younger I had my eye on a Carvin Redline stack XD

i’m a little bummed they seem to have gotten out of that game since Kiesel took over as the guitar side. Or maybe they are reorganizing or something. Or maybe they just didn’t sell enough anymore to justify keeping the amplifier division going. I would have liked to see their take on all the class D stuff out there, now.

Keisel always made the guitars / basses. They were licensed by Carvin to make Carvin instruments.
Carvin was behind the amps and other electronics like mixing boards and studio gear.
When the Carvin store was in Santa Ana next to Guitar Center, I went in to Carvin about once a week. I played guitar back then, and when I saved enough money, I ordered one, because aside from the limited stock on hand for the showroom, they have always been a build to order.
Thats part of the model that killed them because they couldn’t handle the growth, and you can’t be that big and have no instruments under $1500, and that small family owned shop can’t compete and stay cost effective, so they are pretty much a boutique seller now.

The guitar I ordered in 1991 was a beast. Neck thru construction, koa wood with tongue oil finish, double active pickups with volume tone and 3 way selector. upgraded hardware, it was truly a marvel, and the best guitar I have ever personally played. I paid $666 for it.

Last time I checked in on the Keisel shop (they still have very limited stock on hand, mostly canceled orders would be my guess) to replicate my order it would be just north of 2k
Don’t get me wrong, it would be every bit worth the money if you can order a Keisel and not break the bank, but don’t ever expect to see their name on imports to offer more affordable instruments to a larger market of people.
Which is too bad, it would be cool to see some $500 to $900 basses with Keisel name on the headstock in the future, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Carvin got hit by the same thing Peavey and others did.
They couldn’t compete with the Chinese market and maintain the quality standards. Along comes the COVID thing and they didn’t stand a chance. Kiesel has been making Carvin guitars a long time for Carvin. :crazy_face:

How strange that I never even heard the name Kiesel until somewhat recently (like, 2014 or 2015 recently, when it was announced Kiesel was ‘taking over’ guitar production and I got The Beast from their In Stock section) and have been a Carvin fan for a long time o.O

A lot of this has been a long time coming. I worked for a place that made refrigerators. The refrigerator was made here…but the components…nope…the chemicals for the foam? nope. The same scenario for most industries. I’m gonna shut up before I start an argument. :crazy_face: :skull: :robot:

No argument from anyone here, I don’t think. That said… although I do it myself as well, it’s a bit hypocritical to complain that stuff isn’t made here, and yet at the same time complain that $300 is expensive for a low end Squier or Yammy. I mean, it’s the combination of CNC and offshoring that enables most of us to have the quality of instruments that we, mere mortals, enjoy.

My practice rig is two Phil Jones Bass C4 cabinets powerd by a Ampeg PF800. cleanest sound ever! I hear more out of that cabinet than any other ever. its as loud as a 4-10 cabinet. truly the best out there. my main bass rig is a Carvin BX1600 powering a 2x10 and 1x15 carvin br cabs. couldnt ask for a better setup for the money.

Curious, which pedals do you use before you go into the amp? I’m kinda assuming you wont be using the Sansamp or maybe for extra drive?

Yep, the blender icon is a class of its own… :grin:

I’m using the SansAmp as pre-amp, with eq in mid position it does not really change the sound but adds some color and provides a nice ‘fat’ sound. Also use the drive a lot coz it’s a bit warmer and less aggressive than the drive of the amp.

The other pedal is a Keeley compressor.
