Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Pearloid is great too!

I prefer the plain white (it’s that classic Fender “creamsicle” look with pastel colors like that green) but both pearloid and off-white are good looks there too IMO :+1:

Not all basses, but my three Mayones basses (as an update):

(from left to right: Jabba HF JJ4, Jabba Custom 5, Jabba HF PJ4)

I chanced upon the PJ in 2020 and immediately fell in love with it, but I didn’t quite have the knowledge and experience to pinpoint what it was that made me like this bass more than others. Several years of trying other types of basses, I found myself gravitating back to another similar bass, the JJ, and yesterday, the 5-string variant arrived at my home. And it’s all what I had hoped for. No other 5-string I have tried has felt so “right”, comfortable and playable like this one - it’s quite a great feeling

I guess it just so happens that the specs of the Jabba basses are perfect for me (body shape/contour, neck size and dimensions, string spacing, …) They feel, look and sound amazing to me.

(This is not intended to be a Mayones commercial, but I am just grateful I found a bass brand and type that fits my playing style and preferences so well and is exceptionally well made on top of that! Now, my wallet is not quite as happy…)

Nice!!! @joergkutter all are 2 octaves. Both JJ and PJ are 1.5" nut width?

Yes - 38.5 mm  (And the 5-string is 43 mm (1.7’'))

It’s a keeper for sure

Man, at a slim 43mm nut width, I could someday consider venturing into the netherland of fiver.:wink:

Man, I wish you could try this one… it doesn’t feel like any other fiver I have ever tried; I am very pleasantly surprised

What’s the string spacing? It’s got to be narrow, right?

I expect you’re deep into playing right now. :joy:

I just read that the string spacing is 18mm, versus 19mm for a 4-string. That’s cool combined with the 21mm deep neck profile at the nut.

My Jabba Mala 4 has the exact same neck depth. I spec’ed a tad shallower neck depth for my custom-built Jabba P/MM. Love the feel of it.

Fret markers on the first? Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before (he says as if he has ever looked for it anyway)

18 mm at bridge

They always do that with inlays (for symmetry, I guess). And by “they”, I don’t mean Mayones, but all bass builders

Yep, block inlays from first fret onward.

that’s a nice inlay, a nice headstock, and a really nice string tree

Don’t forget the zero fret too. All nice, it’s the second California model from Germany, the other one is the VW, :joy:

I had a California II P bass with those features. For a while, anyway.
