Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Tummy Contours is a great band name.

I don’t doubt that. But I would find it both funny as well as a good idea if they would offer DIY sets.

It would be like one those replica DIY sets for cars, like the Chamonix Spyder or those Superformance cars.

I will never buy a car again, but I like the idea…

You’ll never buy a Mayones, either.

Only if they make an exact Fender P-bass copy, so I can be cool

Dusty used a reverse tele neck by the way, tuners on the bottom. lengthens the E for better tension, never tried it

Yeah I know. I priced out a reverse neck. Probably not going for it.

Don’t hold your breath on that one.

Yeah!

Wait! On second thought hold your breath for it,

Don’t blame you.

Yeah the Warmoth will end up a really nice bass. Not my choice of pickup but I understand why you guys love them.

I had a moment when I though about buying a vintage neck to put on the Warmoth body.

I changed my mind pretty fast.

Wow! That’s a great deal. Usually it’s $4000+

Warmoth used to have a reverse tele neck option. Went through the options a couple years ago and ended up buying a site d5 and putting a stinger in it

I have done plenty of this but if you buy a good enough instrument to start, there’s no need, beyond perhaps personal preferences/trivial swaps like strap locks or tuning machines.

No desire at all to change anything on my BB’s, and the only reason I changed the tuners on my SBV is that the design is so light it has a little dive with the stock ones (which are otherwise excellent). Everything else, especially the pickups, are fantastic on both.

Modding is platform dependent and not price point to me. @howard sent me a link for the Yamaha motion bass and I jumped on that. It’s a few hundred bucks but it requires no modification only string changes.

So cool

This is good advice for beginners too; buying a proven, high quality older bass used can be a way better plan than buying a new entry level model, and cost the same or less for a much, much better instrument.

You said it.

It’s probably my top 5 bass. I put the 90-35 strings set on it it’s extraordinary funky.
