It has honestly exceeded my expectations. Really enjoying it. Sounds great, looks great, the neck is incredible
Kyle Kim is the founder of Sire (and Dame, South Korea). He’s a player and he extends to players an unbelievable amount of features and premium materials in his Sire basses, and at price points that other brands would charge at least double.
I really dig my GX-10. I’m still playing around with it learning what all it can do, but I’ve been working on my 6 string and being able to switch between bass and guitar with 1 click has been awesome.
I’m looking forward to digging into it some more. Do you have a favorite go-to tone? I’ve found “Studio Bass” to be a solid all purpose but I’m excited to make some tweaks of my own
Definitely make your tweaks. I default to one that I made, similar to the Studio bass patch but I use a different amp, I add in a few reverb patches and have it EQ’d differently. I’d suggest going and grabbing the Extra Bass Tones Vol. 1 and 2 from the Tone Exchange. They’re official Boss created patches, and there’s a few good ones that I use a lot. They’ll show up on the librarian tab.
Love the colour!
This might be why I didn’t buy it at the end
I was expecting lighter color and therefore was surprised / disappointed by the look in person … but it is probably because of a wrong expectation than the bass itself
Enjoy !
New very old bass day, my MB-III got here already.
Here’s something you probably don’t see every day in the US: a bass shipped wrapped only in bubble wrap, without even a gig bag around it, much less cardboard:
pretty common here and totally safe, the shipping companies are very careful and it’s automatically insured for free anyway.
It’s in great shape and very clean all things considered, for a $130 MIJ bass that is at minimum 36 years old ![]()
The fretboard in particular is gorgeous. Pickups both sound great and electronics are fine (before I ripped the gunky strings off anyway). Tuners feel great and the bridge seems fine and looks like a new Gotoh to me.
The one thing I couldn’t check is the truss rod as it’s one of the old-school nuts and I don’t have a socket driver to fit it. @Al1885 do you happen to know what size yours is? I just ordered an 8mm which should also fit 5/16".
The neck is pretty flat so I am not super worried about it but want to get the right driver.
This is what I find. I have the set so I usually just try on what fits. In your case if you are getting just one this is what you need.
Cool, thanks; basically what I ordered.
That’s how I shipped my TRBX back to the U.S. only it had a gig bag under all the bubble wrap. ![]()
That was the first thing that struck me. My 300 has that same socket, probably not a coincidence since they’re pretty close to the same age. I ordered an 8mm and 9mm but I can’t remember which ended up being the right one (of course the cheap Amazon wrench doesn’t have it etched on the side). It’s one of the two though. Did the same, I just wanted the driver on hand for when I needed it, which I still haven’t.
Edit: and I saw Al chime in. I may grab one of those 5/16" anyway because not really impressed by the one I got. Tbh, I kind of expect it to snap off in the socket if I ever need it.
I got rid of all my 5 and 6 strings last year as my 4 string gold Carvin from @JustTim has become my primary bass. A buddy acquired this in a trade and for the price of one of my boost pedals it became mine. Spent quite a few hours cleaning it up and new strings last night. Not too bad. Itch scratched.
Oh hey a Samick! Basically a Cort. I bet that’s a nice instrument.
Yeah the vast majority of instruments I buy and sell are shipped this way. Totally safe here. But back to the US? Ok that was macho, Jerry.
4 string gold Carvin
I’m so happy that bass is still going and that you still have it. It was a beauty. And it played fantastic too.
Oh. That is super nice.

I’m down to just a handful of basses now and the Gold Carvin is the anchor of the bunch.
Bass #2 is here!

and full in the sun:
Default phone cam doesn’t catch the color and sparkle very well.

Ok, this almost gets the beauty of the finish in the sun:
Very nice! Love the red.
