Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Their fries only good minutes after you get it and it’s really good any longer then it gets soggy. Fresh cut fries need to be fried twice like Belgian style but shoestring cut. The best one is Freddie’s, a true shoestring fries. Ummmm! I’m now craving it. Might take a short 40mins drive to Freddie’s, :joy:

I’ve got a Freddies 10 minutes to the west, the opposite direction of In n Out.

I wish it’s closer to me but it’s closer now. Before I have to drive over an hour to Victorville to get some. :joy:

Ugh… I had a kid on my watch team that lived in Voctorville. We worked literally next to the SD airport (we were between the airport and MCRD). That dude would get off of a 12 hour 6pm - 6am watch so that he could drive up the 15 / 215 to Victorville for 4 straight days.

I love them. There’s ritual to make them good and I make them for my kids all the time, can be a pain but worth it. Especially the homemade hash brown and Tater tots.

No one beats Five Guys for fries.

Tell me about it! What was supposed to be a celebratory, “Yay, I got a new bass!” post turned into this cluster.

I’m going to take a moment to make a few points here:

-Serial # on the headstock matches the certificate.

-Serial checks out via Fender lookup as an American Professional II J Bass.

  • I also spoke with Fender customer support.

-Measurement of the neck aligns with a Jazz

-If I was so inclined I could return or exchange it. I am not so inclined.

-I don’t give a toss about resale.

-Lots of strong opinions on what I should do with my bass, which I spent my money on.

And no I won’t be sharing the serial number, I am under no obligation to prove authenticity.

It is not that serious folks. I just wanted to share my joy with ya’ll.

Yeah just save the reply from Fender and you should be good even for resale.

Thank you. I’ve never bought a bass thinking about resale. Love my Fender P and would love it if they come up with another model that interest me. Congrats.

Not a new problem with Fender American. Back in the late ‘90s, my best friend bought a $2500 Jazz bass that never played right, no matter what his luthier tried. There was no way to get a decent low action with no fret buzz and proper intonation. He eventually returned it. That put me off of Fenders.

There are basses that I won’t sell but sometimes when your collection grows you just need to make room and cull some bass usually the honor goes to some of my Fender because it’s well known and people can quickly make the purchase. Compare to other basses Fender Ps and Js have relatively predictable resale value.

This sentiment is ok when you have one or two may be even 5 basses, your perspective will change when it’s 20 or more. Fender/ Squier is the main reason that my collection size exploded, it’s so easy to sell and can be profitable.

Exactly my thoughts, thank you.

I know it! No worries, I’ll just file the “mis-decaled” bass and resulting shenanigans under my villian origin story/lore

The red Squier did I get probably about 16 years ago from my parents and expect for a bad cap and some minor electrical upgrades I should do (I apparently have no clue what I’m doing since everything I tried sounds the same even when all guides says it shouldn’t but this is mostly fixed) it have worked amazingly.

The black one is currently my primary one and it’s just a restringed Harley Benton cello that cost about 500€ new. I got it for about 200€ used but the included gig bag is horrible and should be replaced as soon as possible since both the upper strap seams are horrible (I have a tailor degree and everything with the upper strap seams are wrong but invisible).

My bass teacher have actually said that the Harley Benton is among the best sounding ones his students have so would love to hear what an actual reviewer says about it except that the pickup is super sensitive for random taps on the instrument (I will have too try a more expensive one and see if they have the same issue)

(I bought a cheap beater Harley Benton for 50€ but the only interesting thing about it was the price, might be useful for something more than being a short scale at some point. Still nice to have a short scale for more relaxed practice even though it don’t have any bass in the output)
