Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

We don’t need that kind of quitter mentality around here.

Ha ha ha. I’ve got a John Taylor 5 string coming as my everything bass too. I think we’re on the same bass upgrade plan. 1) Get a good everyday player and you’re set. 2) Actually, I want that dream bass. 3) Pick up other sweet basses as necessary.

I want a Sandberg more than I should considering I’ve never put hands on one. Not sure where its coming from. Those VM-4 nighthawks are some fine looking basses though.

I looked up the VM4 Nighthawk bass. Really nice looking. It looks like it plays great too. I like the black on black. I’ve got the JT Stealth model coming so it’s that same color palette. I want to put dragon skins (black strings) on it after I wear out the stock set.

Sold it / returned it.

Dingwall had quality gaps IIRC? Neck gap?

Figured you got rid of them somehow.

Just curious what worked/didn’t work with those basses.

so true! Glad it’s universal condition. Ur going to love the JT Dingwall. Incredible tone and playability. I thought it would be a nice “extra” but it became a daily driver on day one. Let me know what you think when you lay hands on it.

Greetings all. Basses below. I’ve cultivated these over the years and think they are the bees knees. I mostly play the Dingwall or Stingray.

Basses:

Dingwall NG3 5 string, MIM Fender J bass (heavily modded), Rickenbacker 4004 Cheyanne, Stingray Special 5HH, Rickenbacker 4003.

Sort of on a whim I wanted a PB, since my other is BEAD, and this came up as a good choice for not a huge amount of money. Squier CV 60’s P. Little bit of set up, oiled the fretboard, neck relief was perfect. From what I read the neck is closer to a jazz profile which I really like on my Sire. It plays real nice, I had to double check the length as it seemed so easy to reach the lower frets. Don’t know why. This is the GC version, same but with an “exclusive” color. And, was on sale. Bonus!

After 6-8 months on an inexpensive (but surprisingly good) Gretsch Jet shortscale, and making my way through a little more than half of BTBA lessons, I decided that I really love playing bass. So I started hanging out ay my local shops in MD (Chuck Levons and Atomic) and playing every bass I could get my hands on. A couple of weeks ago, I finally found my keeper. Its an American Professional, and it plays like butter. Loving it.

I nabbed one too. Your right, the neck is in between a P and a J; 2mm

Indeed. That’s a sweet bullpen!

Haha thanks. I learned a while ago that I had can’t buy a bass before trying it out first. Took me a long time to learn that. I lot of lost money buying and selling so many instruments that I didn’t connect with. Now I live 5 minutes from Sweetwater. So, getting my hands on instruments is not an issue anymore, much to my wife’s dismay LOL.

You’d end up getting the Norm from Cheers treatment every time you walked in.

If I lived that close to Sweetwater I’d be there every day and never have to buy another bass again!
