Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

The Fender American Professional II basses are simply excellent. Superb.

I couldn’t believe how good my AP II p-bass was. I immediately bought a five-string AP II jazz bass based on my delight with the p-bass.

Maybe we’re supposed to hate Fender, but you can’t hate kids if their father is a d-bag. So, I still appreciate the ones I’ve got.

I can confirm he also signed the SBV-J1.

Yeah I bought the AP ll Jazz bass off the back of getting the AP ll P bass and being blown away by it.

Also, having seen your image I now have this stuck in my head

It’s ok man, or you can always put the Bakelite oven knob on it, :joy:

I’ve never played a Sire MM, have seen a good bit about them on here. I picked up a used V5 fretless, very very good shape. Plays smooth and the tones sound good. Happy with it so far

Such a great looking neck. Congrats.

Even my black Joe Dart III has white pickups and “Bakelite oven” knob. It’s like Sterling scored a truckload of them at a Cali flea market.

I made the one on the right myself, a couple of years before the Sterling. it took me 6 months to find the knobs. that how I know it’s an oven knob.

One just sold recently, first J1 I have seen in a minute

Still two for sale, one reverb one eBay. I’d buy the reverb one if it wasn’t for the tariffs

TBH you are doing fine with the BJB and the J2

Really though you should get a SBV800MF too. I liked mine a lot but I just like the 550 better, even though I am a Miki fanboy.

I think youwould like the 800MF a lot though, it is a bit more mellow and refined.

I have more PJ Aerodynes than anyone should, and don’t think i need any other PJs.

The J1 is simply a collectable addition that is easy to sell well later once in the states.

Duty is actually not that bad as it is from Taiwan, but shipping and taxes esp suck. Working with the seller now to see what they will do.

I wasn’t sure if this should get posted here or in the freak thread but regardless I’m so excited! This is the first time I’ve been able to get something fun for myself in many many years. It’s not fancy but it ticks all the boxes of things I love in basses:

  • vintage Japanese import
  • weird pickup configuration
  • ridiculous color
  • thumpy as hell

I got it from my favorite local music shop for a very reasonable price.

It’s an early 2000s ESP Grassroots G-AC-55SM Sex Machineguns Noisy.

Fantastic for slapping.

Her name is Doris.

Really cool. How do the knobs work on that guy? ie. configuration.

The three knobs along the body are for each of the three pickups and then there’s a master volume and tone. So way less complicated than it looks especially since it’s passive.

I’d been looking at a PRS Curly 4 last weekend with its three singles and one dummy in the back and honestly this one gives me more of the tone I’d been looking for at 1/6th the price.
