Say hello to my very own Yamaha BB734A.
My long-term loaner which got me through the B2B course returns to its owner when we jam next week.
I originally put in a backorder for a BB434, when an unexpected confluence of opportunity and good fortune allowed me to upgrade the order to the 734. My thanks to
@AnotherJosh, @Wombat-metal, and @howard who made me aware of the 734 on another thread a few weeks ago. And also to everybody who offered advice and observations on yet another thread today when the delivery turned out to be a little less than I was expecting.
Nice! You’re set now
Very nice! One of the best production basses you can buy for more than double its price.
Very nice @bfrederi1 !
Thanks, @JerryP. Unfortunately, that Android phone photo doesn’t do it justice. If I lightened it enough to show the finish, it showed all sorts of reflections and glare. I know dark sunburst is not a popular look around these parts, but I love it.
Just wait until I put glow-in-the-dark fluorescent wrapped flat-wounds on it!
I find it a Smashing color. The black headstock completes the look very nicely.
Noooooooooooooooooooo
You can get one of the new Hasselblad and snap a few stunning pictures, lol.
I’m actually thinking about selling a few of my USA basses to get one,
You may want to reconsider
Hmmm. I can see one of my bass biases starting to crumble…
All of this is why I avoid GC like the plague, COVID, pick your poison.
Sweetwater, Pitbull Audio, Thomann, and some other notable vendors offer excellent products and customer service.
First of all, it’s essentially guaranteed that an instrument from one of these guys would NOT have been packed like the GC bass was.
But if either the package or instrument were to have suffered damage from a carrier during shipping, any of the above top-shelf vendors would happily make good on a prompt refund or would offer another acceptable compensation to the customer.
It definitely does matter from whom you buy online.
I understand and generally agree with what you are saying, @MikeC, but there is one other variable that I should mention:
A couple of weeks ago I spent two+ hours in a local Guitar Center store trying multiple basses. I have only played the loaner RBX170 and needed to actually get my hands on different basses before making a decision. GC was the only game in town for that. And I have an ethical quirk where I feel obligated to buy from the bricks & mortar store that helps me out and not turn around and give my money to an on-line vendor. That ethical quirk tends to be undermined, however, if I feel like I’m offering a business unrequited loyalty. Believe me, this experience has made me very anxious to try Sweetwater in the future.
I get that. And that you found an instrument that is generally unavailable that was available from GC.
Circumstances definitely shape buying decisions.
But, generally, for those players who are shopping for instruments and/or gear, the vendors I listed are bona fide badasses that deliver above and beyond most others. That’s info that can help avoid disappointment, bad deals, and worse.
I know dark sunburst is not a popular look around these parts, but I love it.
Whoever those people are, need to take a step back.
Because that is one fine looking bass.
There are some awful “clown burst” paint jobs out there. This isn’t one of them.
Congratulations on your new bass.
Whoever those people are, need to take a step back.
Gary Hoey is such a huge fan of dark sunburst he wrote a song about it.
I generally dislike brown bursts and that’s still the same 734 that I picked when I had one. As bursts go it is very nice looking, and an unusual color that doesn’t come through well in pictures. It looks great.
Love to listen to Gary Hoey. As a matter of fact I talked to him last Saturday night after his show here in Florida.
Can you actually get these?
I don’t mean DR Neons.
