Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Also this just uploaded Ben Jud was playing BB35 in what I assume the same color as yours. Bass sounds awesome.

A nice little surprise greeting under the pickguard of the SBV-J2. Guess it was made in 2003. lol

Assuming it’s a name but can’t read it.
Doesn’t appear to be Japanese either.
Hmmm

Might have to get a replacement pickguard to get it back to original white. Not sure though.

The 5 strings is just tasty. I love the neck binding on the red one as well. @John_E you have great taste.

Hajime Okano perhaps!?!?

This here is hard to parse, but Okano Hajime and SBV basses are mentioned…

Yeah it is. Good find. I mean, there were only 100 made

If it had been one of Fumi’s I would be even more jealous

So did he sign them all or is this something special?

Looks like he “produced” both this and the J1 (jazz version). So maybe all signed.

Probably signed it when he sold it. IIRC he was the guy that convinced Yamaha to build the J1 and J2 lines based on mods to a SBV-550 he made for L’arc-en-Ciel, and he had a few of each. He may have signed them all but I doubt it, probably just his.

He also produced Polysics, which is probably how Fumi got in to them.

@terb trivia FYI…

edit: actually I just looked it up and Fumi is the one that turned him on to the SBV

terrible translation of what I read:

“When producing Polysics, he also liked YAMAHA’s SBV bass used by their bassist Fumi, and produced a limited edition of 100 SBV-J1/J2 in collaboration with YAMAHA. Although it is inexpensive, the SBV is evaluated as an excellent bass that can be used in professional situations.”

That last sentence pretty much sums up most Yamaha basses
