I’ll kick it over to a friend who is considering a lifestyle change.
This would be a longer game though as he has plans through the end of year.
He does happen to be my band’s guitarist though so having him in country would be awesome for me

Been in IT for over 20 years. Last job was a Business Analyst as a Government contractor. Been unemployed for the last 10 months as my contract ended and I just don’t live in a great area for jobs. Finding a remote job shouldn’t be so hard! Still taking college classes at night and will one day finish my degree… in MUSIC!!! Doubt I’ll ever get to do anything with it, but it’s more of a personal accomplishment than anything else, plus I’m loving the classes!
I am a (full) Professor of Computer Science at a mid-size, public university in Massachusetts. I just finished my 24th year, and was a department chair for 12 of those years. I hope not to have to go back to that
My Masters degree was in AI planning systems, and my PhD was in Robotics. Now, however, I teach primarily Software Development - design, architecture, team process, CI/CD, etc.
My current research is trying to determine whether having students do work in Humanitarian Free and Open-Source Software projects can motivate students from groups that are under-represented in the software industry to complete a degree and help diversify the field.
They’re Refreshers if you’re from the UK
considering background checks can take 6 months that shouldn’t be a problem. Get me his resume if he wants to head this way and I’ll try to pair him up. I have some serious fill concerns in the family support center who will exit between now and February, the MWR shogun said she may be gone by December. I will not lie, the goal posts move constantly, inside and outside stressors, it is not for the faint of heart. You take a 13 position here work it for a couple of years successfully you’ll leave (if you want to leave) ready for the 14-15 slot and everyone in the Navy N9 hierarchy will know your name.
Definitely will pass this on. Any problem sponsoring a visa?
Devops engineer now. Studying for infosec degree. Have been a web dev, sql dev, support, network, etc. I’m the definition of jack of all trades, master of none.
you dont need a visa if you are taking a job offering sofa status
oh interesting.
Nope. You’re a career IT guy
it gets better…if you are a considered a local hire and not rcving LQA you don’t have a rotation date which means you never have to leave…it is basically a job for life right here until you don’t want it any longer. If you qualify for LQA then you get an extension every 2 yrs as long as you keep performing.
Wow. This is really interesting, I did not know about these kinds of positions. So do you come in as a government employee or contractor? i.e. are you actually a GS-13 or 14, or are you just paid on that scale?
Beadwindow
lol. filing the opsec alert now sir.
seriously though, my bandmate might be very interested.
Im a gs 13…the n9 position is nf5…nf5 equal gs 13-15
Ahh sorry I didn’r mean to pry about your role - I meant are the positions beinf hired for GS or contractor. Got it though, thanks
I work for the United States Postal Service, which is raising the price of stamps to 66 cents on the 9th I started in Peoria, IL in 1995 at the Remote Encoding Center (keying in zip codes and addresses that the machines didn’t pick up). The mission of the RECs was 10 years and that’s what I got out of it when it closed. In 2005, I took a clerk job here in the LaSalle, IL area, and by 2009 I was bulk mail clerk. I did that for 10 years before my friend Gary and I switched jobs and I became expeditor, but when the downtown station clerk retired, I took that job, but it took a year. They were going to revert it but realized that part timers couldn’t do it…they needed a regular, so I bid on it (I was the only one). It’s a tiny office that primarily serves the downtown merchants, which aren’t many, so it’s quiet. I’m retiring in 2 years when I have my 30 years in, so I want the peace and quiet anyway.
