Now that’s what I call Bass covers, Vol 6, track 13,
Great playing! Tone was really nice and full.
you are crusin’ through these!
Some of them I had already done as covers for the cover thread … LOL so I just put em here ![]()
Thanks for all the comments on them!
I know this is an older post, but I’m just starting with Yellow and going over everyone’s covers.
I also feel like the isolated bass sounds like a pick, and downstrokes the whole time.
I looked for some live videos and it seems the old ones are finger style and newer ones with a pick…
I’ll try both and see how it feels.
Also, it’s really cool to see how everyone is approaching the chorus slide differently!
OK, here is my version of Yellow.
I was never into Coldplay and never liked this song.
Luckily (thanks to the wisdom of Josh) this song really builds on the extensive chugging practice we had with U2 and was easy to learn quickly.
This time I think the bass is too low in the mix…
Tried it with a pick as well but couldn’t get the consistency of the chugging with it - volume and attack all over the place.
Thanks in advance for any input!
(for some reason, YouTube would not embed the video here and you have to click and watch it on YouTube website. Something about copyright restrictions. It is the same song as all the other posts so I am a bit confused, but whatever…)
Quite a nice, simple one here. I’m pleased that I actually managed this on my very first take, which isn’t something I definitely can’t say for the last one I did.
Watching back, I think I could’ve played the chorus a little smoother.
Maybe, but you did a great job, tone was on point as well, nice mix, nice playing, nice bopping, lol
Feels like I should be embarassed to be seen bopping to Coldplay haha
But if it keeps you in time, it’s worth doing.
Here is my cover of Yellow by Coldplay. I can tell I’m nervous as my timing is not great, hopefully I can grow more confident with time.
I didn’t notice much timing things here, nothing that isn’t expected at this stage, keep on truckin’. As I commented on another video, a bit choppy playing vs. fluid for this one too.
From the Bass Buzz 100 songs, Easy section.
This is one of three songs I was learning for the prior 3 months, multiple sessions per week, minimum 15 minutes per session. The other 2 songs are in ‘Post your Covers’. I learn while sitting then practice while standing. This change in posture is enough to create temporary confusion. After multiple educational moments I felt comfortable to record. Despite the practice the chorus needs more work to create a better feel
, this was recording attempt 4.
I decided near enough will do because I am a partial perfectionist and I want to be more relaxed in areas of my life where adequate is fine. Coldplay Yellow
The chorus was the difficult section
.
Happy to receive feedback.
I am recording myself standing because I found this Bass Buzz conversation from late 2021 Standing vs Sitting
I used the website Moises.ai (5 free songs per month) to remove the bass and provide a click count-in.

How exciting! Your first group of covers! It takes courage to put yourself out there while still learning. ![]()
I think I’m in the same boat as you. I strive for perfection, but I’m posting my covers with mistakes and all. One of the reasons is so I can document my progress over time. But another reason is to feel comfortable moving on after a mistake - which is especially important in live situations!
You’re doing what you need to be doing. Working on songs and posting them here. This community is so helpful with feedback.
Congratulations and I’m looking forward to more covers from you! ![]()
Good for you. Recording yourself is a very important part of learning.
You are on your way…
So timing of plucking during the chugging is off, and can be more consistent. This will come with time but more importantly practice. Make sure you listen back, many times, no matter how painful it might be.
The choruses need a bit more work timing wise as you are off in several spots. A great first cover, and perhaps you come back one day to show improvement.
Song #11 - Yellow. Admittedly, not a fan of this one - which is why I’ve avoided it so far. But I can see why it’s on the list. ![]()
Coldplay - Yellow (Bass cover)
The theme of this one is a throw back to when my son was a little tyke. He was a huge fan of Curious George. That’s what happens when you collaborate and mesh ideas, right? lol
sounds great! What’s blurred out on your shirt?
@Professor good stuff ![]()
Thanks!
Metal Up Your A$$
It’s the title that was originally planned for Metallica’s debut album.
I was just planning to practice Yellow the evening I recorded it, but I played right through the first time so I decided to capture it and move on.
This seems like a family-ish place, so I blurred it out. I know that’s not very rock & roll, but I felt it was best in this situation.
