Song 2 - "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Thank you! Yep, spot on. As many times that I’ve played this… every single time it takes a few measures to get in sync.

It’s time, here is my 3rd and final recording of this song, this time for the very first time ever with my brandnew old Telecaster Special bass, playing on Tapewound strings! :grinning:

Fun Fact - first recording was on Roundwounds, second on Flatwounds, third on Tapewounds. Nice coincidental comparison, lol.

I know, there’s a little meow at the end, but it’s still good enough for me to move on because this does not happen everytime (actually never happened before).

Hope you enjoy it!

Just for fun, here’s a full cover of the song that we did, as a band, at a recent open mic.

Please note that I add fills at the chord changes - I prefer it that way, rather than just playing root notes all the way through. While, overall, I think the songs a cool song, as the bassist, I find it a bit tedious, the fills keep my attention

I’d say where is the backup dancer… but she’s kinda young to be hanging out in the pub

Awesome job!

Do you guys play at this spot a lot?

This was our second outing, actually the first with our current guitarist. We need to get some more live experience, but have nothing currently scheduled as the guitarist has damaged his shoulder and can’t play!

Bummer!!! Hope he heals quickly… and you guys get out there more  Looks like you are really enjoying it!

Can someone give me some advice on the fingering for the solo part? For the | D D D D | D D A G | pattern during the verses, I use finger 4 (pinkie) on D, finger 3 on A, and 1 on G. I find that only fingers 1 and 2 are strong enough to hold both the D and A on the fifth frets. So if I used finger 2 for D and A, it would make it awkward to get finger 1 to G for the final note of that pattern. My biggest problem with using fingers 4 and 3 for D and A is when it gets to the solo. They’re a little clumsy as they try to pass back and forth, especially on the eighth notes. Any advice is appreciated

Just sat and played this song through - it’s one we do as a (crappy) nascent cover band.

That’s exactly the fingering I’m using throughout. Pinkie strength, like all things, is about repetition and practice. Eventually, the pinkie gets strong enough and decides to cooperate…! I should also add that I don’t play this song exactly as original recording as I find it tedious beyond belief. I add in transition notes in order to maintain my own interest. I actually find it strange when I listen to the original, or covers, without these extra fills

So the tl;dr is “skill issue”

Thank you sharing your take as someone in a crappy up-and-coming cover band. I’ll continue practicing and getting my pinkie s w o l e :muscle:

Great job on that! A couple spots there was some fret buzzing… which can be from a number of things… fretting too hard, not fretting hard enough, not fretting in the right spot… or the neck may need adjusting…

Not being critical btw… its something we all had to deal with at one point

Start with the things that you have control over first…before looking at the bass itself

Again… great job

Thx. No idea what I’m doing with tone other than twiddling knobs :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. Appreciate the feedback :+1:
