Speaking of pet pictures

D’oh! I blame … um, yeah, I got nothing. I’m just dumb like that…

I would say Kirby is “low shed”. Certainly nothing like the lab we used to have (those undercoats - my lord…), but not no shed. Murphy doesn’t really shed though. But yes, we’re doodle fans too…

Took the day off work today. Finished another Bass cover this morning. Then Dog and I skied up to Chimo Hut at Strawberry Pass. As we sat there eating our respective lunches. I thought about a poem we learned in school.

Leisure by William Henry Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

@Barney 61 years old. Served in the military. Live in Southern California; yet, I’ve never seen, touched, or been near snow. But somehow, I know that the poem and the pictures meant something much more than now. Actually, even before the beautiful poem, I got it, When I was thinking about your 33 covers and seeing the results. When I retired 10 years ago, I said I’ll be in a band in a year. 10 years later, I still don’t have a complete song down. Thinking of your 33 covers, and you coming home from work to put the work in… it really hit home. At the moment, as I post this, I’m taking a break from the work that started after I read your post, and saw your latest work on here. If nothing else, now that “it” reached one person today. This forum is truly a good thing. And, because I never like to sneak up on a man (or woman)… watch out… I’m coming to a video (and record) near you real soon.

Hey Thanks @booker_t I’m ex military too. I did 12 years in the British military. I left straight from school and joined up. It’s what I believe psychologists call a ‘formative experience’ in that it forms you as a person. There were a lot of good times and a fair amount of really really crappy ones.
So borne from that experience I decided that the best way I could live my life moving forward (whilst paying the greatest respect to friends who didn’t make it) was to say ‘Yes’ to more things. Now saying yes means you’ll have a host of great experiences and you’ll also have your fair share of rubbish ones. But as my old grandma used to say ‘You’ve got to be in it, to win it’.

This how I ended up living in a ski town. I took all my savings (sold everything I had) and decided to train to become a ski instructor. So in my 30’s I made minimum wage, slept on couches BUT had the best job I’ll ever have. Being paid to ski all day, every day. I then went back to school and did my carpentry apprenticeship in my late 30’s. I ate a lot of rice and beans and lived paycheck to check.

So when people say ‘Oh man, you’re so lucky to live in a ski town’ I think, no not really, I was almost broke for 10 years straight. I wasn’t luck that got me here, it was getting my head down and putting in the work. I’m actually grateful for the hard times because it makes me appreciate days like today even more. We happy few.
I look forward to your first cover with relish. Cheers Brother

This sums it up for me too, yeah. I’m both really glad I did it, and totally not sure if I would do it again

Just before Christmas we lost one of our beautiful rescues.
Frankie always suffered with digestive issues as do so many thoroughbreds but this time we just couldn’t fix her colic.
RIP kind girl
