One can be yours at NJ Guitar & Bass Center for $1700 and change…

I like that, you can hold down the groove and fight your way into Mordor

Lol, it does kinda look like an axe head! :joy:

I see you and raise you a double-sided bass. WT the ever-loving F?!

Maximal comfort(?) and tonality, all in one.

Yay.

[Now please excuse me as I wash out my eyes with bleach.]

NGL, that’s top on my B2B graduation gift list.

It’s bonkers, beautiful and wonderfully impractical, just like me.

I don’t possess the minimum required levels of funk to use it in public, but as I’m not much of a people person, it really only has to please me. :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

My guess is it was soaring high before its grassy demise - the rest of its body since cast asunder.

if that was not a terrible burst it would be pretty sweet

A careless shift while playing seated could likely result in an unintentional bassectomy.

Careless Shift is a pretty primo band name

I also saw this on FB. Here’s the writeup that accompanied the pictures…

1993 Conklin Boomerang 5-String Bass – #1 of Only 3 Ever Made | NAMM Show Piece | Fully Restored

This is a true unicorn in the bass world.

Custom-built by master luthier Bill Conklin in Springfield, Missouri in 1993, this Boomerang was the very first of only three ever produced — created specifically as a showpiece for the NAMM Show that year. Today, only two are known to still exist.

Featuring the unmistakable asymmetrical “Boomerang” body shape, this bass turns heads everywhere it goes. After decades of service, it received a complete professional restoration that transformed it into a stunning, modern-playing instrument while preserving its historic character.

Specs & Restoration Details:

• Construction: Neck-through with Flame Maple / Purple Heart laminate

• Fingerboard: Flame Maple

• Neck: New double-action truss rod installed; professionally reshaped to comfortable Jazz Bass dimensions

• Finish: Gorgeous classic two-tone sunburst with nitrocellulose clear coat

• Pickups: Lace Alumitone humbuckers (lightweight, articulate, and low-noise)

• Electronics: Updated with CTS pots, kept original Neutrik locking jack

• Hardware: Hipshot Ultra-Light open-gear tuners, Hipshot Transtone bridge, O-ring knobs

• Strings: 5-string configuration

• Comes with the original custom built Unitec flight case

The restoration strikes the perfect balance — it plays and sounds like a modern high-end bass while retaining every bit of its wild custom-shop DNA and provenance.

This is not just another exotic bass. It’s a documented piece of luthiery history with direct NAMM Show lineage, expertly revived for the player who wants something truly unique.

Serious collectors and players of rare instruments will appreciate the combination of originality, documented rarity, and thoughtful modern upgrades.

I’d play it if it didn’t have that darn extra string.

So very many things wrong with this thing.

I don’t understand why they made three…
