From what I can tell, the reissue isn’t mac compatible unless I missed something. That’s unfortunate because RS 2014 originally was.
If I have never owned RS and if I buy this $10 Remastered version for PC, what songs come with it? I see a Wikipedia entry that lists 66 included songs, including War Ensemble by SLAYER. Is that true? What does $10 actually get me? Thank you!
Thx for the info
Was talking about the + version, didn’t know the 2014 was remastered.
But how accurate is it?
How does it compare to the others?
@Whying_Dutchman is a director of regional sales in Europe, he could fill you in,
It’s a bit of a pain to setup without latency and you gotta get used to the UI but in general it’s pretty good.
100% on the hardest difficulty. It’s licensed.
Hahah - sorry for the delay! I’m more on zzzee Zzzerman forum currently…
So Rocksmith+ s#cks! It’s easier to setup for ASIO devices, the UI is ok - but the choice of songs is frustrating. I haven’t used it for some time now, so it might have impoved.
Rocksmith 2014 is much better, especially cause of the remaining choice of official songs. But more and more songs are being unlicensed currently and some are Rocksmith 2011-only (I envy the ones that have RS2011 for PC too).
The official songs for Rocksmith+, Rocksmith 2011 and Rocksmith 2014 are flawless. You can purchase them via Steam.
You get more than 75.000 songs for free on https://ignition4.customsforge.com/. Quality can be between soso and great … just like Songsterr and UG.
You need to hack Rocksmith to use customsforge, but it’s simple.
I use Tonelib Jam with the Rocksmith songs, as I find it MUCH better than Rocksmith. It has no tone recognition, but that is bulls#t anyway.
It has so many great features I prefer - it’s an ideal learning tool and is used at a local school here for the music courses.
You do need Rocksmith 2014 to download the original Steam songs though. 10€ for RS 2014 is a no brainer - get it!
A specialist for the customsforge songs is @JamesPrestonUK. He knows some tricks I don’t.
The official RS cable s#cks. I have it but am reluctant to use it.
As a workaround you can use RS_ASIO without the official cable, but it does not work for every audio interface.
Setup can be a drag … sometimes latency s#cks, sometimes you have robotic sound. Sometimes you’re lucky and found the sweet spot. One more reason to NOT use RS but get Tonelib Jam!
@fiwi - get RS2014 on steam. This way you can get the official songs too!
@everybody: happy to help, in case you have questions.
EDIT Oh, and Tonelib Jam can export to Guitar Pro format, which is nice if you use Guitar Pro, Tux Guitar, Muse Score or Go playalong.
I use Songsterr 99% of the time, but (not sure if this has been mentioned before) the ability to edit and submit your edit is a double edged sword. I’ve learnt a song using the Songsterr tab, gone back to it a month later and some clown has rewritten it! You can select a previous version, its a bit clunky, but works.
At least with UG people just write a different version, so you can check through to see one that fits your playstyle.
My cover of Need Your Love So Bad was using UG as the Songsterr one was like playing a different tune. You could even see the bass player in the video to compare how bad it was.
That’s truly adorable!
So does Rocksmith 2014 Remastered come with any songs, or nah? Is it to be bought just so I can purchase a dwindling list of $3 songs one at a time?
Sounds like this one might not be for me. I was hoping that the game could be played as-is with some good songs. I’m not looking to spend a ton of money on DLC. And I don’t have a lot of patience for finicky setups and latency. I got my fill of that during my MAME (arcade rom) days. Spent more time fussing with it than actually playing it, which killed the joy.
Or am I misunderstanding it?
Got it! Thank you @Whying_Dutchman! I saw that page late last night, but didn’t think it necessarily applied to the “Remastered” version. I see a heading now that uses Remastered.
I think the choice is quite OK.
I also did not want to purchase further songs … but I did. The quality is just too good!
For 10€ it’s really a no brainer.
If you configured MAME, than installing RS_ASIO will be easy.
What audio interface are you using?
You’ll find a list with working audio interfaces here: GitHub - mdias/rs_asio: ASIO for Rocksmith 2014
Also, when you have RS2014, download the trial version of Tonelib Jam and import the songs of RS2014 from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rocksmith 2014\dlc
Get the *_p.pscarc files.
You can also copy all to a folder and rename them to something readable with this GitHub - Darrken/RockSmithCDLCRenamer: Renames Rocksmith 2014 CDLC files to match the Custom Song Creator output format: Artist_Song-Name_Version
Err, none. I have an older “gaming” laptop I was hoping to use. Until you said it sucks, I was hoping to just plug the Real Tone cable into it and be done. Sounds like that’s no good though.
I have a Fender Rumble 40 amp in the same room if that’s any use? I also have several generations of Xbox available, including the newest one, Series X.
Any of that workable? Thank you!
Ah I see. Audio Interface = hardware I don’t have yet. I’m very new to learning bass and BassBuzz. Only a few weeks in. I don’t have a lot of hardware yet. A bass, that Rumble 40 amp, some cables to hook my PC or iPhone to the AUX in, and some headphones for the amp and laptop.
The cable works fine, I have one and used it for RS+. It just doesn’t sound as good as using a DAI.
Also the setlist on the Riff Repeater website is for the old one not the remastered. There is crap to play by default. You’ll need to buy DLC or enable CDLC and hit customforge up.
There are all the lessons
some classical music
and a classic melody pack (ignore the mobile part)

If you don’t have a real tone cable or audio interface, RTS2014 itself will not be of any real use anyway!
Because you can use an audio interface for more stuff, I would prefer that over a real tone cable any day.
But, again: you could likely use Tonelib Jam with the Rumble 40.
- Get Rocksmith for 10€.
- Play their songs via Tonelib Jam. Trial is free, it’s currently discounted for a good price too.
- Play the Rocksmith audio from PC into the Rumble.
- Play your bass via the Rumble, like you always do
No latency, no issues!
Only thing you miss out is the tone recognition. You won’t miss it!
I was willing to buy a Real Tone cable, that’s $23 on Amazon.
All in for $33 sounds quite reasonable.
I’m not at the point with the bass where I would use the Audio Interface for anything but Rocksmith.
Tone Lib workaround sounds interesting, but cost is creeping up again. I think I saw it for $44? If I go Tone Lib through the Rumble amp, am I still playing a “gamified” version? Or is it more like jamming to good backing tracks? I’m not up on Tone Lib at all.
Just get it! For that price you will have a lot of fun!
I have a schedule interview with Songsterr tomorrow 2/11 in the morning. Do you have any questions you want me to ask them?
