More experimental than guitarists? I’m relatively sure that’s not the case.
Pup swaps, amp tweakoids, fret machinations, electronics shenanigans, cab choices, on and on and on have long been the stomping grounds of electric guitarists. And there are so damn many of them that their demand for the latest hotness has spurred upgrade innovations and resources for us lowly bass players to the point that we can shop from a smorgasbord of shiny things these days. Yep, vast numbers and money talk loudly, and marketplaces respond. Result? Our toy store gets mo’ bigger.
Two years ago, I hit upon a Cort Action PJ (a bright pink sample was reviewed by Josh as the most affordable decent beginner bass). This was being sold “for parts” for the princely sum of 20 euros, so I was thinking “that might be a nice opportunity to develop and test some fixing and setup skills”.
It was in deplorable state when I got it. After a new set of strings and two full days of work, it was fully functional, held its tune, and had a nice low action.
There’s something I like about the sound of this bass. It has a unique quality that always reminds me of peanut butter (I have no idea why). As stated by Josh, there’s not much different sounds you can get out of it, but the sounds that it does make are fine! I did get the bridge pickup to contribute a bit more to the mix by raising it a bit, which is what I felt Josh might have tried).
Objectively, the TRBX is the better instrument by a substantial margin. for some reason, I grab the Cort more often than it’s entitled to.
Well, that’s… awkward. I have come to live under the assumption that Koldunya was a he.
Having said that, this guy was from Norfolk, and he was generally known as a friendly, completely harmless giant. With hands like spiders, being able to finger chords that would send any other guitarist on a trip to the ER.
So yeah, I can imagine wanting that hand. You’re not gonna get it, though.
I’m afraid the difficult relationship between the iPad’s virtual keyboard and you is now getting to the point where we may have a wee bit of trouble figuring out what you’re saying.
Funny story here.
When I played trumpet years ago, I had a Martin Committee just like Miles Played.
I hated it.
It cost a fortune and I hated it while others raved about it endlessly.
What grabs you grabs you, what doesn’t will grab someone else.
I found myself picking the 6 string often lately, it’s just a stupid fun bass to play, totally a different animal than the 5 string. Sometimes I just got some odd inspiration and just noodling endlessly.
Its the phone. I cant type for crap on these tiny keyboards, and the window is really small and hard to navigate for edits…
I guess I need to start sitting at the computer, and deal with the leg pain if I ever want to make sense again. I just cant type a decent post on my phone.
I guess thats a stretch, as if I ever typed a decent post or made any sense before.
Yes, I know exactly what it’s like. I make a lot more typos on a phone, and if I want to do an edit, I have trouble positioning the cursor where I want it.
i went as far as acquiring a little foldable hardware keyboard that connects to the phone using Bluetooth. Works like a charm – but only if I have it on me.
