Song is pretty straightforward, but the two tricky parts are starting on the second beat after the drum fill intro and the running octaves. I am working on the “slow” studio version and hope to have it up to speed to be able to do the fast live version in a week or so.
I am working on Fascination Street by Cure.
I’m getting blisters because of the slides.
I will endure. I will be victorious. At 100BPM.
Jimi Hendrix-Machine gun. I got about halfway through it today. Hoping to be able to play the whole thing within a week. It isn’t a particular hard song to play, but my memory is so bad. If I’m looking at it, i can play it. If I’m doing it from memory, i may as well Just be playing scrabble or something.
Another Jimi Hendrix here Manic Depression. I’m taking real life lessons now and we started working on it a couple of weeks ago. It’s not that hard and I really enjoy it. At the moment, I don’t care so much about actually finishing a song as there are always parts to focus on like an interesting rhythm or technique that will improve my playing. I’m also trying to get away from tab and starting to read actual notes. My teacher transcribes songs for me, but never in tab, so I’m very slowly getting used to it.
Great song!
I’ve been working on the first 42 seconds or so of Infinite Dreams- Iron Maiden for over three months now. This week I finally got it up to tempo a few times. I still can’t nail it every time, but I had to build up the finger strength to even bar it, and I’m proud of that, even if the song is too hard for me. At this rate it’s going to take me another year to get the whole thing, but I’m going to keep chipping away at it.
Ok, now I got new project, thank you
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Same with songs. Bite sized chunks, get them to speed (or where you are satisfied) then move forward. Before you know it, it will just fly from your fingertips.
Holy Diver by Dio - surprisingly easy, after 2 days I was playing it along with the actual song, although I still stumble a bit on some transitions, the rhythm for me is easy to get back to and continue playing. It’s also quite intuitive to get it right the way the bassline follows the guitar, you kinda hear what’s coming.
Stand By Me - Otis Redding out of many versions, very simple and satisfying.
Express Yourself by Charles Wright - feels like it should’ve been included in the course, all fretting is based on major scale pattern and basically comes down to 2 sections. The rhythm is a bit tricky and also it may take a while to get the tempo right, but I’ve just started on this today so we’ll see. If you get the intro/main riff part right, there isn’t much else challenging there, but this bassline is just so nice that I knew I have to learn it.
I just looked at this. I’m going to try it. I figure with a boatload of luck and 2-3 years practice at 3 hours a day I’ll be able to do that.
You definitely should! Even if it’s tricky, it’s fun to play. My husband taught me the beginning of this song right around when I started playing again, and it’s taken me ages to get anywhere with it, but it’s still my favorite song I practice.
I’m actually playing it right now. The shape in the intro is really classic iron maiden stuff. The little finger twister that happens at the 16th and 24th bars took a minute to wrap my head around. I had to actually stop and play some other maiden to not get frustrated😂
This is of course by no means me saying I’m playing it well…
Oh I’m sure you’re doing significantly better than me lol. I’ve struggled with moving my hand fast enough on that because I still get lost on the fretboard. I’m working on the first part of Tears of a Clown too, but my rhythm is really bad on it.
A lot of of surf stuff has 12 bar in it if you listen. It is actually some good starter music to learn.
This statement makes me glad no one listens to me play😂.
I’m quite sure you’re doing really well at it, keep up the work-i have zero doubt you’ll get it.
The program here is excellent for learning-it is definitely the ONLY reason i can even attempt to play at all.
As for that having to look at the fretboard thing? Welcome to the club.
I think this friday is good one for some beerrock to play with Rakkauslaulu - YouTube
Ok, people are going to laugh. I’m cool with it.
The song I’m currently working on is…
Heaven is a place on earth by belinda carlisle.
I heard it today on the radio, and i was kinda struck by how good it actually is. If you listen just a little, you can really hear how her voice alludes to her punk rock roots.
When i was 15, i hated it. It was all my girlfriend wanted to listen to. Now I’ve heard it like 15 times today while I’m sorting how to play it…
Man, life is funny.
Actually a fantastic song man!
It really is. All of the Go-Gos were really underrated - the band was awesome.
Is it wrong that I loved them at 12 and I’m still pretty fond of them at 50?
