Still loving you - Scorpions. Seems perfect for a beginner.
Besides Dune Tune by Level 42… that is proving to be a big challenge for me.
Working on “Daddy’s Fanny Pack” (Pappa’s got a brand new bag)- M11L3 Medium and fast speeds.
And trying to train ear… and pull out the notes from this:
My kryptonite. Hysteria. I’ve got it at 80%. Since it’s such a mental block for me, I’m also working on several other muse songs. Gotta be able to re-orient myself and not get frustrated. I’m making progress. But it’s never as much as i would like. Then again, 3 years ago i hadn’t ever held an instrument-so i guess everything is relative, isn’t it?
For some reason, Exogenesis off of The Resistance is the one of theirs that I’d love to play. All 12 minutes of it.
I love Piano Man. It’s one of the first song I can sing in English and not understand it,
@Whying_Dutchman you can try this funk version
I am working on:
Too Sweet -Hozier and
Yellow-Coldplay
I just try to imagine you as a young boy, singing “Piano Man”.
I guess the first song I sang in “english” was “Bare Necessities” - don’t tell anybody
The funk version of “Just the way you are” has the same lyrics as the original, so no playing allowed for me. Billie Joel has been blacklisted by my girlfriend cause of his misogynistic nature, so that’s that ^^
I’m working on this, since it’s perfect for my 5 string. 10+ mins of fuzzy Sabbath worship. Funny thing is, it’s not strictly in BEAD. I couldn’t figure out why it was not sounding just right, so went to a tutorial and he said that EC probably just tuned to each other and went “yeah, sounds good”, so have to tune it to the song. But I do need a better fuzz pedal to dial in the tone.
Is my current full song goal. It’s not too difficult, but getting the timing on the walk-up-and-back-down in the chorus at full speed is being a bit of workout.
Since I got the 2 recorded and posted last night, I spent my day working on my next conquests. I’ve got it nailed down to 3. Joy Division - Transmission, Interpol - Not Even Jail (these are to work up my speed) and Whirr - Younger Than You for the shoegaze goodness.
Oh cool, Transmission has some neat parts.
That E-F-E-GG-G measure is why I can’t play it at 100% speed. As it is, 80% is almost too easy and 90% is hit or miss how that little bit turns out. Also, I can’t make myself play that one flubbed note Hooky played. You should check out the Interpol one. It’s a very Peter Hook-like bass line. Same deal, there’s a measure that I just can’t hit clean at full speed.
One thing with Hooky basslines - the tabs are usually “right”, but not especially close to how he plays them. AFAICT Hooky will usually opt for open strings, for example, so if you see a lot of 5th fret fretting, be wary.
80% of the Disorder tabs I found were that way so I started fixing them on sites that allowed it
Ooh, it’s joy division day? I like joy division day. I play it for crap, but it’s sure fun.
I’m currently at m in my list because i go alphabetically-but that means I’m at my chemical romance and a great deal of their stuff is very difficult for me.
with all the furore in the UK we are covering Oasis Don’t Look Back in Anger at my Rock Project Jam. Pretty straight forward.
For B2B… still trying Papa’s got a brand new bag. Fast isn’t good yet.

Allentown.pdf (40.2 KB)
Fifty Years Long.pdf (33.3 KB)
Winter Games.pdf (52.0 KB)
Level 42 - Dune Tune.pdf (309.8 KB)
First 3… is my in person theory teacher wanting me to learn to read without tabs.
Dune Tune… he wants me to play it cleanly with a drummer, a friend of his is training… because both me and the drummer apparently have long-ish white beards.
Yeah, cool!
That’s one of my warmup songs - love it!
Did you have a look / listen at “Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But” and “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High”? Both get a little more complicated at the end, but they are my cover candidates…
Somehow, Arctic Monkeys completely went below my radar … I just discovered them a few months ago (shame on me!), and really appreciate their style!
I don’t know “Perhaps Vampires…” at all and will have to check it out, nor have I tried “Why’d you only call when you’re high” yet.
I have worked on “R U Mine?” a fair bit as it was my introduction to them in Rocksmith. It’s a fair bit more complex but a lot of fun.
Hahaha - yeah, Rocksmith (or rather https://ignition4.customsforge.com/ and Tonelib Jam) is my introduction to many new songs too…
I also failed at R U Mine (for now) … next month, new try!
Yes! I saw the posts in here about customsforge and have grabbed the patch and a few tracks from there. Amazing resource! Thanks for posting about that a while back.
