Oh, wow - you did more than me! I switched completely to Tonelib Jam, as it can do so much more for my use case.
Good to know that at least one BassBuzzer was inspired by this

I did check out ToneLib Jam also. Even used it to notate a little little phrase I was noodling one day. But since I already have Rocksmith via Steam adding tracks there was easier.
When I start recording and notating more, I’ll probably pick up ToneLib.
Remember to purchase it only when they have a discount! Otherwise I find it too expensive!
For recording it’s ok, for transcribing I prefer Guitar Pro. The MuseScore app also might be an option … and it’s free (but quirky sometimes).
Today is all about pelican. Dead between the walls and drought. Love me some pelican, wish i played it better.
New week, a new song. Today, a fierce fight with the recording of the bass track. “Just” 14 takes. Some ideas sound better in the head than actually playing them …
Ugh…cherry pie by warrant
Really not my flavor. It was a request from my sweetie. I was laughing about it with my friend and he says it’s the musicians dilemma…
" of course i don’t want to be here playing this. I would certainly rather be playing something else. But this pays, and since i need money i’m a warrant playing fool."
I think this is - to my ears - the perfect pop punk bass line.
I loved it since I first heard it, but never did a note-for-note play along.
This isolated bass track is lovely.
Tip - it’s tuned down a half step.
It’s got everything.
The hammer-ons and pull-offs… the slide into the chorus… that most perfect pull-off of all time at the end of the chorus?
So great.
Not so much a song but I feel like I’ve hit an odd plateau. The songs that I really want to learn are quite beyond my current ability (paging Mr. Wooten) and nothing I can think of in my current skill or slightly above it are exciting me.
A while back I gave a shot at jazz/walking basslines and at that point I didn’t have the theory knowledge I needed. Now I feel like I’m in a much better spot to be successful in that area so I’m doing a massive deep dive into that.
I went through Scott’s into to jazz lessons (not the expensive jazz accelerator course, just the normal member’s section one) and I still don’t jive with his teaching style. I’m currently working my way though Mark’s “Simple Steps to Walking Bass” and, now that I’ve completed his Chord Tone course, the stuff he’s talking about in SS2WB are making much more sense. I’m actually feeling that I may be able to do this now.
Just started working on Big City Nights by Scorpions - loving this bassline soo much
I’m a long time AC/DC fan and even though some seem pretty easy, there are some “interludes” that have some crazy cross string applications…working on Back In Black at the moment
You’re doing the right thing autumnsdad1990, lol
This one’s always been my favorite Big Star song. There are some really good covers out there that have been done over the years too.
I saw these kids doing this back in 95ish at the 9:30 club in DC opening for 7 year bitch. They blew the doors off the place.
Big Star FunFact™: My partner was working at KCOU in Columbia, Missouri in `93 and was part of organizing the Big Star reunion for their SpringFest that year, immortalized on the Columbia album. IIRC it was her suggestion to contact the Posies about filling in for the missing Big Star members.
I was never a huge Big Star fan so my favorite Big Star song is probably “Alex Chilton” by the Replacements.
My cover the other day didn’t scratch the Sonic Youth itch so I picked up Starpower. 32 consecutive F#/F#\F# slides on E. It’s fun but it gets messy by the end. Still working on Transmission also. I’ve got it down but I think I’m looking for perfection and some of the open A’s get clipped and I’m trying to clean that up still. Gun to my head, I could record it right now though.
I find this thread both inspiring and somewhat daunting… writing something down here is tantamount to committing to getting a song learnt … and blimey, I have so many half learnt songs on my ‘to do’ list
Chapeau to all of you that make the public commitment!!
Ran across an Ozark Mountain Daredevils CD and decided to learn If you want to get you heaven. Main riff is basic and repeating, but there’s lots of little fills that I can’t work out by ear and online tabs and such don’t seem useful. I’ll get there eventually. More struggle=more gratifying in the end
I’ve been working off and on on this song for quite sometimes now. It’s my Nemesis. It’s played by my favorite bass player, Joe Ayoub, American Idol Bassist. I transcribed this song about 2 years ago, it was simple enough to transcribe, but to play it, that’s another story altogether
It’s my favorite version as a bassist of course.
Purple Rain by Scary Pocket
Recently joined a “project/rock band,” got ambushed by:
STP - ILS
STP - Plush
VR - Slither
TP - Runnin’ Down a Dream
Tool - Sober
AIC: Rooster, Man in the box, Down in a hole
I’m like 70% - 90% on all these jamming but knowing im on the struggle bus for very little time to practice!
Ironically? I’m trying to learn how to use a pick again for a line on “Would?” where the bassline is very distinctly correct up/down strokes along with a fun rhythm.
