I have essentially given up on Cult of Personality for the time being.
So deep is my despair that I found myself learning the guitar solo to Hotel California, and I am not even a guitar player!
Why not do “love rears it’s ugly head” first, also from living colour? As a bridge to cult of personality?
This was on our Jam list, not a song I would have chosen.
I love that song. Reminds me of the times I stayed with some of my girlfrieds too long … and the reason why I did that
Cult of Personality is a great revisit every month or so if your doing a lot of finger exercises in general.
Getting those 16ths tight is tough!
I have 2 more songs I want to learn then some time in mid November, it’s time for Hysteria. Started the year with Muse, going to finish the year with Muse.
Hit a brick wall in module 12 playing Red Clay so decided to try something a bit lighter. It turns out Groove is in the Heart is a good challenge for me right now. Looks simple enough played entirely on frets 4/5/6 but plenty of string jumping and forcing me to keep discipline in fingering on my fretting hand.
That said, I find the groove easier to hold if I dance a bit while playing it. Probably looks silly with the requisite amount of bass face.
Nice, i like it!
A few:
Masked Intruder: Crime Spree
MCR: Black Parade
Coheed and Cambria: A Favor House Atlantic (I did a really basic cover of it when I first started based on Songster…but it was just root notes and the actual version has a ton of runs and is more complicated).
I hope to post a cover of Crime Spree in the next week or so as it is just a basic I-IV-V punk song, but it fast and has a cool melodic bass fill in an extended bridge section.
Currently Jeff Buckley ‘Grace’. Just getting my head around the bridge and outro
STP plush…with thanks to @Nebel and @Whying_Dutchman for the support
I’ve got three that I’m currently working on:
- Rush, “Tom Sawyer”
- Van Morrison, “Brown Eyed Girl”
- Bill Withers, “Just the Two of Us”
10:15 Saturday Night - the Cure. Love the Outtro.
The Clash - Guns Of Brixton. It’s been stuck in my head all day, I need to get it out
I’m trying to nail some more “complicated” old punk songs. Currently focusing on “Let’s Lynch The Landlord” by Dead Kennedys. I can play it at normal speed, but it’s yet too much choppy for my taste. I’m getting there, though!
We have a mid season SoR show in a little over a week and I got asked to work on Living After Midnight.
Seems like the line is not that complicated, but it’s about 10 times more chugging than anything I had tried before today. Just nailing that level of endurance and coordination seems like it’s going to be really challenging in the available time.
Not sure how you feel about it…but you could always try it with a pick.
