Megadeth’s Bad Omen. Not much into the lyrics but the music rocks. Definitely need to build up some stamina. It’s a workout!
I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut!
Discussing a few songs for the group, BL sugests some more Alice Cooper (good, always has interesting bass)-I suggested a doing the Muppets mix of Welcome to My Nighmare (because we are a 3 piece and the bass is prominent in this one), BL talked about doing Stormtroopin (Ted Nugent) had a listen, sounds ok.
Then I suggested some Sisters Of Mercy, BL is familiar with SOM but not a big fan, he prefers doing classic hard rock.
Well I showed him Dr Jeep and he thought it was ok, then he said maybe I could sing it.
I can barely sing in the shower, let alone with a bass.
Not one to ignore a challenge I looked for some inspiration and found this, might be easier than I thought and a cool bassline too:
Edit:
I also found this while looking around- it links to a free 7 lesson course on singing while playing bass, I have done Luke’s Blues intro course and some other beginner ones and he is good too:
Just about ready to record this one for the Covers thread
Gotta love John Deacon
Playing live is so addictive you’d want to do that all the time.
Something I am working on… got what I think is an OK tone for this…
Not sure I have the endurance yet for the whole song of octaves… LOL
I also stop playing to show how the bass really does carry this tune
Muse - Uprising practice
It will be a fun one tho when I get it locked in
Cool, we were doing this one for a while, it is a bit of work
Dummy me… after breaking the song down in to repeated patterns ( to make life easier… ) messed up the verse pattern… LOL
There are actually 2 half measure step ups and step downs… I had neglected the one in the verse section…
OOPS. LOL
I guess that’s why its called ‘practice’
Here mate, here is our chart and a score from guitar pro
UPRISING CHART.pdf (202.1 KB)
UPRISING SCORE.pdf (2.3 MB)
If they don’t upload let me know an I’ll send them another way
Good song, From Dusk Till Dawn is a fav film of mine.
I got it sorted … LOL Thanks for that tho
All I was forgetting was the walk up in the second repitition of the verse… LOL
Here is our setlist for next Jam in 2 weeks.
The underlined are new ones to learn
I am singing Dr Jeep (first time singing ever let alone while playing)
We seem to really gel on the Black Sabbath ones
Open to ideas for Stormtroopin effects, I recall it has a fair bit of phaser going on.
Some madman with a diabolical plan was talking about The Tragically Hip
the other day and since then I played at least 2 hours of Hip songs…
These 3 were disproportionally played the most.
At The Hundredth Meridian
Locked In The Trunk Of A Car
Fully completely
The Hip I can play much better than a couple of days ago, perhaps the madman’s plan is working?
Otherwise Birdland is one of my main songs I work on lately, the Jaco version, and Come on Come Over and The Chicken, I’m not saying I’m killing them but they are recognizable…
LMAO!! wonder who that could have been
Haha I’ve been waiting for that reply, I’ll add a thanks…
I’ve enjoyed getting my Hip on…
LOL no thanks needed Glad you got to re-visit the Hip
I’m working on Like a Stone which I’m finding more challenging than I expected. It’s not particularly notey, but getting the rhythm, which incorporates ghost notes and most notes played on upbeats, is taking some practice.
Not that its a necessarily a “hard” song, but definitely a step up from what I’ve tried to play to date.
Slow it down… and take your time ( a lot of my covers I should take this very advice … LOL )
The song aint going anywhere … you have all the time in the world
Got a few that I’m looking at for next…
With Or Without You - U2
Dreams - Cranberries
All-Star - Smashmouth (I have this one mostly down, except for the 16th notes in the chorus)
Long-term aspirational tracks:
Institutionalized - Suicidal Tendencies (thanks to @Bassic)
The Thing That Should Not Be - Metallica
New list for this week.
Challenges are singing and keeping time for Dr Jeep (SOM), neither part is hard, but doing them together is a new skill for me (I am not a singer by any definition, not even in the shower).
Fear of the Dark (Iron Maiden) Dear God! what have I signed up for- great song challenging rhythm changes and arpeggios/inversions
