I totally forgot about that bass. I really disliked it. And that’s not it.

This is a bass I owned for a very short time, and have bought again. Hoping for better luck this time.

T-Bird?

Nope

I’m curious what it was that you brought home first and ended up being a lemon. Sorry to hear it didnt work out but congrats on the Geddy Lee!

I had this long-standing bass… fantasy, I guess, that I would be a die-hard Fender Dimension player. Ever since my first exposure to them. I’ve had a MIM single humbucker Deluxe, a MIA single humbucker Deluxe, a MIA dual humbucker Standard, and a MIA dual humbucker Deluxe. For as much as I wanted to love each one of them, none of them really… gelled with me past the initial infatuation.

That said, what I brought home first was a Fender American Elite Dimension IV, dual passive humbuckers, 18v active preamp/eq, asymmetric neck. The Dimension humbuckers are split coil with a 5-position switch… the 1st position is the neck pickup alone; 2nd position are the outer coils on the neck and bridge pickups; 3rd position is both pickups on full; 4th position is the inner coils on the neck and bridge pickups; 5th position is the bridge pickup alone. Turns out, the outer coil on the neck pickup was bad. I couldn’t really hear it in the store, but once I got it home and listened to it with headphones, it was very apparent. The first position on the switch (neck pup only) was weak, and the second position (outer coils on both) sounded like a weaker fifth position (bridge pup only).

Of course it was used, and the tech who certified it for sale was the tech who worked with me when I brought it back. We pulled that thing apart and tested pickups and researched resistance levels. We worked on it for like… 2 hours before he apologized for letting this get past him and onto the floor for sale, confirming that one of the neck pup coils was bad.

Suffice to say, I no longer have the Dimension fantasy. I think they’re great looking basses, but… this was my 5th Dimension, and really… if they didn’t gel by like the 2nd or 3rd, there’s no way I’m going to gel with a 6th. So, Dimensions will now get relegated to the same mental shelf where pre-Kiesel Carvin basses live: I love the way they look, I wish I could have found one that wasn’t busted and gelled with me, but it never happened, and I don’t want to eff around with them anymore.

Oh wow that’s wild. Glad GC so was so cool about it and this is good information. I know everyone’s experience may vary but I’ve nearly pulled the trigger on a dimension before because they do seem really cool. I’m glad I didn’t though

Don’t let my experience color your judgement; I mentioned in another thread that I had a couple of years of bad “bass luck”. Many people have had great luck with Dimensions, and if they look cool to you, you should at least try to play one.

I will say that the asymmetrical neck on the American Deluxe and Elite models is absolutely amazing.

I just got my first Fender bass! It is a used custom quilted maple top American Professional II Jazz V. I think it is a 2023, based on the serial number, and the previous owner swapped out the preamp with an Audere. I love the look of it and am excited to play it!

That has to be the most beautiful Fender I’ve seen, if it’s modded from the original. That’s some mad skills there.
