All Day And All Of The Night is an iconic song by The Kinks. This bass cover gets a video shot by my daughter, whilst I was playing on the hotel balcony.

I lived in Spain from 2007 -2010. Madrid for the first half and then Tenerife for the second half of that time period. I took a break from my career and taught English mainly at businesses. It was a great experience.

I loved living in Spain. I lived in Andalucia, near Cadiz from 1988 -1991. If I were to do the expat thing, Spain pr Portugal are right at the top of where I go.

That’s cool! Madrid is a fantastic city! Tenerife has a special place in my heart, I conducted my final year thesis field work on the island, spending most of one summer out there while at university. I’ve also been back many time to ride bikes up Teide!
I assume you went to Granada (the Alhambra, incredible place) and also visited The Rock (
)?
Another cool city. I was these a couple of weeks ago - we have an office on the Diagonal. Sadly, I seem to fly in and out, rather than do the tourist thing!!

Yep, I’ve been to the Alhambra. It is something you really can’t appreciate, either the beauty or size of, without seeing in person. As incredible as the palace was, I think that I honestly preferred the mosque / cathedral in Cordoba (pic below) 
. Gibraltar. I lived close enough to it that we picked up BBC radio from Gibraltar. I was a 12 year old skater punk in Rota listening to the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Hole instead of 1980s Armed Forces Radio. Talk about a lifeline. I also set a record in the pool in Gibraltar at 50m freestyle. Saw the monkeys and some of the cave paintings. Bought my first pair of Doc Martens.
Oh, another cool thing I got to see living there when I did was watching the prep for the ‘92 world’s fair in Sevilla and the 500 year anniversary of the Columbus voyage taking off from 15 minutes away from where I lived. Metal detecting with my friend and his Dad in farmers fields digging up Roman coins. Northern European women coming down for holiday on the Costa del Sol doing the topless thing (again… 12 year old boy).

Been a bit so I figured I’d check in. This song, for whatever reason, has become my song for the summer of 2026. I haven’t at any point gotten tired of playing it. I decided to have some fun with the bass. I’m running through a Hi Watt amp, I tried a Marshall but it was just a little too gain-y for what I was looking for. I added a really short delay to thicken things up a bit without changing the basic sound. I’ve got the mids boosted to around 7 and the bass boosted to about 6 on my BBPH. The original is a more proper sounding bass signal.

I was blown away by it. Given how old it is, it’s in beautiful condition. To be honest, the thing that stunned me was the water features. Given the climate in southern Spain, fountains were an ostentatious show of wealth!
Your comments about the sunbathing practices and their impact on 12 year old boys … yep, I remember first going to sun soaked French beaches at a similar age 
This sounds really good, @faydout. There have been a few of your covers where I’ve ended up adding the song to my iTunes playlists. This will be one of them. I’m hearing a heavy 80s influence, The Cure, The Furs, Simple Minds, that kind of thing. I liked your bass tone too!

Sometimes the timing is a little off, but the good thing about filming and recording is that you can work on that.

I paid her
My daughter plays piano … she could be a lot better than she is, if she practiced, but getting a 12 year old to practice anything is very difficult!! She also plays keys in a school band, which is cool. There are three ‘rock bands’ at the school (it’s an extra-curricular activity) - the school put in a ‘festival’ at the end of term. It was excellent!!

Yes, I remember being a 12 years old girl. I had piano classes, I don’t remember for how long, but I lost my interest both because I didn’t want to practice, and because my mother had expectations. It is good to let them go on their own pace as they wish. Even if she gives it up for a while, she will become interested in music more seriously later. Having played piano and keys, and having a father playing in a band, it probably means she will keep interested in music now, and later on.
And having a pocket money for filming music videos is super cool.

I started at 8, but from 10-12 (‘61-’64), I studied with Joanna Lange, the soloist for the St. Louis Philharmonic. 2 hours every Saturday morning. My mother found her. She didn’t need to do anything else. The first hour was sitting at her kitchen table doing theory, like transcribing a piano concerto down a minor third (EXACTLY what every pre-teen boy wants to be doing on Saturday morning). The second hour was sitting at her Steinway concert grand. She could tell within 15 minutes how much time I’d spent practicing that week. Intimidated the heck out of me. Practicing was a matter of survival. Still, I look back on those 3 years and realize how they were the most important 3 years concerning music in my life. 10 years later, I could still sit down to a piano and improvise for an hour. I especially enjoyed playing boogie woogie with my left hand, while playing honky tonk with my right.
Joanna suffered a stroke when she was 62 and lost the use of her right arm. Did that slow her down? Nope. Since this is a covers thread, here she is at 80, doing 4 covers arranged for left hand alone. She was still practicing about an hour a day.

She’s very talented and impressive! I’ve never seen anyone playing Chopin with only one hand before. I’m glad a stroke didn’t stop her from playing the piano.
It must have been an invaluable experience to have piano classes with her, though you were so young.

Hello, all. I’m taking a moment to add one of my recent covers from the 50 Songs Challenge list here so it gets indexed.
This one is special for a few reasons:
- This is the first thumbnail with our dog, Gunther. You’ve probably seen him running around on screen before, but now he appears by my side in the image.
- This is the debut of my new (to me) Fender Player Plus Meteora bass. I’ve had my eyes on this one for a while and finally found a pretty good deal on one. I think it fits in with my Jetson’s inspired background.
- As of this very moment, I have a cover uploaded with every single one of my BGs! However, thanks to @cheeze_pizza, I have my eyes on a certain Sea Foam Green Signature J, so this status probably won’t last long.
- Finally, I’m officially on the second half of the 50 Songs Challenge list. 26 of the 50 are uploaded and in the books. They’re posted in the respective threads as well as my video index below. I have a few more covers from the list recorded, but summer has been busy and the video production team (my son) is running behind.
A big thank you to everyone who has watched, commented, recorded, posted or even liked one of songs in our cover thread! All of you help make this a special place on the Internet.
