Finally hopping on the bandwagon. Got my first bass recently - she’s a Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Jazz Bass in a lovely olive finish and tortoiseshell pickguard!
There is a thread precisely for this sort of thing:
Beautiful and fantastic bass. If you ever upgrade the pickups to the custom shop ‘60s you’ll be unstoppable!!
My Amazon (Donner) p bass. As a first bass it works fine, with a rumble 25, tuner and flanger pedal (for the post-punk vibes).
I had one of these (as my second bass). It was a great instrument for the price, much better than the intro Squier that sold for $120 more.
I later modified it with Steve Harris SD pickups and Steve Harris strings, plus a Gotoh Hi-Mass bridge. I sold it when I bought the real Steve Harris MIM Fender. And funnily enough, I regret selling that bass more than the genuine SH Fender. Never meet your heroes.
Yes, I will swap out the pickups at some point. Build quality (fit and finish) seems very good to me…
I lived in southwestern Ontario at the time I owned it, and humidity was a problem with huge swings from season to season. I had to dress the frets a fair bit, because during the dry season the were really poky out of the factory.
Yeah, nobody likes their frets running around all nude and stuff.
@harrym262 My first bass as well, set up as BEAD, and just installed a new pickguard today. Took some work as it’s for a Fender; had to drill some new holes, made plastic “nuts” to hold a few screws that had nothing to hold onto, open up the pickup cut outs, and router the opening just under the cable jack. Couple hours, 17 bucks for the pickguard from Amazon.
I know, eh? Especially here in Canada. It’s cold in the winter. They might freeze their little wires off.
I am starting module 7 of the bass lessons this week, so new week, different bass to play. I will show this in project basses area also and give a detailed description of it there. This started out as an Ibanez Mezzo bass. I completely overhauled it and it plays very well. The old original body is shown in the picture.
Congrats, man! That’s a great bass. Play the hell out it.

Man that is awesome, Love it.
Beautimus!! or should it be Beautimass? ![]()
WoW! So good looking and that bridge looks SOLID.
Never heard sunburst called “grandpa-burst” but it does sum up why I don’t like it. Tooooo many sunbursts out there. (says the guy with black basses.
)
Here is my Squier Affinity P bass. Its my first bass. It had the white pickguard which soon got replaced with the black pearl.
