GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Congrats. I love that Ibanez house pickups. Similar was offered in the EHB 6 string I tried it but it was not available for several months at the time so I picked up the premium model.

That pickup is so fantastic very tight and punchy. I just love it. I hope you love it as much as I did.

JDM to rule the world!

Gz! And the more I see that colour, the more I love it… but I have to behave… because if I say BEHS… I say also “Angry wife”!

Nice! I’m curious to hear your perspective on how the BTB compares with your Dingwall. I made the mistake of playing an 806 and now I own it, LOL.

I’ve played all types.
But loud gigs give a cartharsis that no other gig can give.

They are the best gigs.

BTB806MS is an underrated monster!

I downtuned it the other day to F or F# for Rocksmith and it flew through the song

Oh damn.
I never watch gear videos.
When I do watch videos I am so good at staying cool, aloof, distant.

I need this pedal.

I just love that Taylor Swift’s bassist was running around in a Sepultura shirt

Yeah don’t pigeon hole him as a pop bassist. He’s really solid all round player and a nice guy.

Does anybody have any experience with these? Older ash down amp and 2 mini 48 cabs…

I’ve just bought a new Head and cab from Ashdown which I’m happy with.

I’m sure you know but the ABM heads have a tube/valve in them that they use for the drive channel. They’re a mix of solid state / tube. If you’re ok with dealing with tube technology and the potential hassle. That’s the Mark 1 version I think, so it’s a few years old.

They’re on version 3 now.

I love that pickguard… always get jelly when I see it… and I am someone that doesn’t usually like pickguards!

Sorry for the OT!

Hello everyone. I play left-handed and I want a pink bass. There are very few options for cheap, pink basses, which is very much an attack on me personally :sob:

I found a pink Fernandes bass for sale on Ebay and I would greatly appreciate if someone who’s more experienced in buying basses could give me an idea of the quality of the bass in this posting. I found someone on here had posted about Japanese basses and said they were pretty good, so I hope that’s the case for this one.

The best alternative to this bass would probably be a Sire Z3, for about $100 more, but I can’t stand the tortoise shell pickguard, so I’d also have to swap that for a white one. I love the pink sunburst on this Fernandes one, but also I like the Musicman sound of the Sire, so it’s a bit tough to figure out.

If you read all the way to the end of this post, please reply “Izzy you don’t need a pink bass at this time.” Thank you!

Izzybella you need to find a herd of unicorns along with as many pink left-handed basses as possible.
(I know that was not the reply you requested.)

I lack the experience you require to offer much help, but I am intrigued by the challenge you have presented.

I found this link about Fernandes basses that has a picture of a purple and pink octopus:

The Rosegold Sire Z3 you mentioned looks good.

Just for fun I did a custom build on Fender’s site in case you win the lottery in the near future.

I hope that you are successful in your search.

I’d be wary of the Fernandes at that price.
I wish I knew more about them.
I have played and loved Fernandes instruments, but all of those were made in Japan.
I can’t speak for the made-in-China versions.

If it was made in Japan, I’d recommend it whole heartedly.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.

There is an easy way to change the colour of the pickguard: use 3M 2080 wrap film.
You can get samples in A4/Letter format for about 4€. If you want to go for white, a really great colour is satin pearl white. But there are 100s of colours to choose from - even unicorn barf

Application is easy: put the wrap film on the pickguard, leave about 5mm over the edge. Heat with a hairdryer and gently remove all bubles by swiping over the pickguard with a cloth. Heat the edges and wrap over the back side by pulling and stretching, so there are no irregularities.
Voilá - you’re done!

It takes 10-15 minutes to do, will look perfect , is very durable … and you can change it back without any residue or to anything else you like!

Note: in the beginning it might be a good idea to order two A4 sheets, as you need to get a “feel” for the material…

Herey you can see the results of my use of 3M 2080 - for both control plate and pickguard: Should I shoot my new bass? (Modding the Harley Benton MV-4MSB) - #1650 by Whying_Dutchman

film seems cool for this, as if you shred it or get tired of it, just replace it

ofc so does paint and clearcoat

I talked to my punky-funky luthier and he found the wrap film better (hadn’t heared about it before though).
He is using wrap film now too for similar tasks.

Reasons:

  • You need to put quite some effort into making paint really stick permanently on PVC .
  • On chrome control plates it’s almost impossible to have paint stick. If you want control plate and pickguard to have the same colour, wrap film is a very good option.
  • Painting is non-reversable
  • There are some really cool/crazy colour options for wrap film

And you know the pickguard fits/lines up already!!
