Scary Pockets has some amazing covers. I’m particularly fond of their cover of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”:

Nice bass line there, too!

The one I’m currently working on is Bach’s 3rd Brandenburg, 3rd movement. You’ll need either five (or more) strings or drop C and tune in fifths. Listen to the Wendy Carlos version as that has the best, clearest bass line of any of them:

Third movement starts about 2/3 of the way through. It’s nice practice in 12/8 too if you happen to want any.

Love everything Scary Pockets put out.

Is funny it’s not terribly tough to transcribe the songs but it’s difficult to match the energy level.

At the moment it is Everyday Should Be A Holiday by The Dandy Warhols.

I learned “I Wish” by Stevie Wonder. It’s one of those lines that just feels dynamic in the movement and rhythm.

I don’t know too many bass lines in their entirety (two, TBP) but when I grab the bass to practice or just to noodle around I always seem to play the intro to Run to the Hills, Money, Iron Man and the Ska riff from B2B. Recently I added a few variations on a 12 bar blues and Song for My Father (thanks @JoshFossgreen ).

I love that Am ska riff from the B2B course! I use it as a warmup & speed test. I got it up to 230bpm this morning before the wheels fell off and I crashed & burned  :exploding_head:

At the moment my go-to’s are The Joker, Black Velvet, Don’t Be Cruel and Stuck in the Middle because not only are they recognizable basslines, but they are great for warm ups. Each of these songs have parts that took alot of practice for me to master. It feels like an great accomplishment for me because for whatever reason, I never thought I would be a musician. But I am. I’m a daggum musician!

And working on getting up to speed with Living on a Prayer but it tends to tie my fingers in knots still

Every time I practice, I seem to play these at the beginning or the end.

Believe it or not, Billie Jean…did not pose a problem from the start other than getting finger speed up. After a run or two through it, now it comes easy. I use it to warm up all the time.

Although I play it with backing on yousician, I have been playing Can’t Stop “for a year” (I played it when I started, sort of backed off playing bass at all and am now playing it again).
It’s my favorite and I really get into it.

My current favorites are The Things I Used to Do by Stevie Ray Vaughn and Far From Any Road by the Handsome Family. Both have great bass lines that aren’t that difficult to play and a lot of fun

While warming up, Groove is in the Heart always pops up. And usually that pinky finger strength exercise from talkingbass. But I’m looking forward to picking through this thread for more options! Thanks!

It’s one of the songs in the 50 Songs Challenge:

You should record it and post your cover!
